University of Maastricht
PhD Student
May 2011 to May 2015
I’m working on a PhD project aimed at developing efficient multilevel designs taking into
consideration budget constraints.
London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM)
Lecturer
June 2009 to April 2011:
I worked as a lecturer for LSHTM and I was based in Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit
(Mwanza, Tanzania). The unit aimed at evaluating effective interventions against HIV and other
sexually transmitted infections.
My main duties included:
(1) Provide statistical support to all research projects carried out in MITU from their design, to
statistical analyses, to the reporting of results
(2) Provide training, mentoring and support to locally-appointed statisticians and scientists at
MITU
(3) tutoring LSHTM’s distance learning students for two modules: statistical methods in
epidemiology and basic statistics for clinical trials
(4) contribute to the preparation of scientific reports and publications
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK):
Senior Statistician
August 2005 to May 2009
I’ve worked as a Senior Statistician for GSK. I worked for both Phase I and Phase II Clinical
trials in Neurosciences. My main duties included:
(1) Provide statistical input into the design of clinical trials
(2) Provide statistical input into the development of protocols
(3) Provide statistical support to data managers on designing and setting up databases
(4) Produce statistical analysis of clinical data
(5) Provide input into the final reporting of studies
1
I had strong interactions with colleagues from different disciplines, such as clinicians, study
managers, project managers, pharmacokineticists, data managers and programmers.
I’ve worked for GSK’s sites in London (UK), Verona (Italy), and Bangalore (India). In the
latter, other than providing statistical support to Phase I and Phase II projects as described
above, I provided professional and statistical trainings to statisticians employed by GSK in its
new site.
School of Health and Related Research – University of Sheffield
Research Associate
October 2004 to July 2005
I worked as a Statistician for the above school. My main activities included:
(1) Refine questionnaires used for research projects within the School. Plan and undertake
all statistical analyses relating the above questionnaires and write up findings for
publication and dissemination.
(2) Provide advice and input into quantitative aspects of research for all section members.
(3) Teach quantitative aspects of research, design and analysis of data, through lectures.
Design and deliver course materials, supervise practical work and advice students on
their progress.
(4) Provide statistical support to PhD students, undertaking their Research Degree within the
School. My support involved, in particular, developing a plan of analysis, advising on
statistical methods to employ and advising on interpretation and presentation of results.
EDUCATION:
UNIVERSITY OF MAASTRICHT
Maastricht (The Netherlands) – from May 2011 to present.
I’m employed as a PhD student
LONDON SCHOOL OF HYGIENE AND TROPICAL MEDICINE:
London (UK) - from September 2002 to September 2004.
I gained an MSc in Medical Statistics.
BOLOGNA UNIVERSITY – FACULTY OF STATISTICAL SCIENCES
Bologna (Italy) – from academic year 1995-1996 to academic year 1999-2000:
I graduated in Social, Demographic and Statistical Sciences with Italian mark 106/110
(equivalent to a first class British grade).
