POSITION OVERVIEW
Under general direction and supervision undertake calibrations, fault finding, repairs and
installations to a wide range of instrumentation monitoring and process control equipment
including electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic and chemical based instrumentation and
PLC control systems at water and wastewater treatment plants, storage dams, reservoirs,
pumping stations and associated network facilities operated by ActewAGL in the ACT and
surrounding region.
Your duty to your employer includes an obligation to carry out your work in a way that does not
put ActewAGL in breach of any legislative or regulatory obligations. ActewAGL will have
responsibility to provide suitable training and to make you aware of the legal obligations relevant
to your work.
Under the ActewAGL ‘Always safe’ Health, Safety and Environmental Management System, this
position is required to participate fully in all aspects of health, safety and environment
management within ActewAGL, including risk assessment, hazard identification and control and
incident reporting.

Position Description
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Effectively undertake scheduled preventative maintenance tasks in accordance with task
priorities, deadlines and process operations.
2. Effectively respond to and undertake reactive maintenance tasks in accordance with task
priorities, deadlines and process operations.
3. Co-ordinate task completion within available team resources, operational & procedural
constraints and systems availability.
4. Complete documentation and reporting requirements in an accurate and timely manner.
5. Participate in an emergency on-call roster as required to provide a 24 hour, 7 day a week
breakdown and maintenance service.
6. Assist in the preparation of preventive and breakdown maintenance work orders, the
recording of maintenance history, the development of maintenance programs and the
scheduling of maintenance activities relating to instrumentation monitoring & control
systems.
7. Assist in the identification of workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments and perform work
in accordance with implemented safe work practices and procedures.
8. Work within the Branch’s policies and procedures established under the Quality Assurance
and Environmental Systems.
9. Assist in the identification of workplace hazards and perform work in accordance with
Occupational, Health and Safety work practices and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Possess an Instrumentation & Control Trade Certificate and possess or be eligible to obtain
an ACT and NSW Restricted Electrical Licence for connect/disconnect.
or

Possess an Electrical Trades Certificate with relevant post-trades qualifications and
experience in Industrial Instrumentation & Control. Possess or be eligible to obtain an ACT
and NSW Class ‘A’ Electrical Licence.

Possess at least 3 years direct experience in field and workshop maintenance and calibration
of industrial instrumentation & control systems including the ability to read and interpret
electrical, electronic, instrumentation circuit and schematic drawings.

Possess an ACT Class C Driver's Licence or equivalent.

Required to obtain and maintain the following qualifications/certifications:

Electrical rescue

First Aid / CPR

NSW Construction Induction

Confined Space Entry



Possess a good working knowledge of industrial, electrical, instrumentation and PLC control
systems including the maintenance of these systems. Specific systems include electrical,
mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and chemical based instrumentation and control systems,
relay logic control systems, electric motors and industrial power distribution and control
circuitry.

Be highly self motivated and display self reliance and initiative.

Demonstrated ability to work and cooperate with other trades, individuals and work groups.


written reports of a technical nature.

Be physically able to work at water and wastewater facilities. This includes working in the
vicinity of biological fluids, air borne dust and chemicals, working from heights, working in
confined spaces and the use of ladders and staircases.

Possess the ability to use a personal computer to prepare reports, access information and to
enter data relating to job planning, scheduling and feedback.

Have an understanding of preventative maintenance and quality assurance systems and be
able to work within and assist in the development of procedures governing these systems.

Be prepared and able to participate in appropriate training programs and where nominated,
as a representative on committees.

Be prepared and able to participate in emergency on-call rosters.

