PRESS RELEASE
17 March 2014
Countdown in anticipation of the world’s breed-leading Holstein bull
begins...
The countdown has begun to the launch of semen from Cogent Breeding
Limited’s world-leading Holstein bull, Cogent Supershot.
Cogent Supershot is the first bull to be marketed over $1,000 NM (the most
important American index for the profit-minded farmer) but also is a worldleader in several other global indexes.
Interest in this young bull has been phenomenal across the globe, resulting in a
release strategy designed to give everyone in the world an equal chance of
acquiring some of Supershot’s first semen to make the next generation of
Superstars. “Since announcing the purchase of Supershot last autumn we have
been overwhelmed with enquiries for semen,” says Owain Harries, Cogent
Breeding’s Genetic Procurement Manager.
The price per straw clearly reflects the superiority of this global leader within the
marketplace and the record level of interest, with a purchase price to the farmer
of US $1,200 (€865, £725, $1300 CDN).
A maximum of 1,000 doses of semen will be available for delivery from 28th April
2014. No further semen will be distributed until 1st August 2014. The first 1,000
doses will be individually numbered from 1-1,000 and will be available worldwide
at the same time giving every breeder equal opportunities to create early
matings.
With the mainstream release date of his semen being no earlier than 1st August,
this gives breeders an exclusive period of over three months to make the very
first progeny of Cogent Supershot. Couple this with the limited amount of semen
available and his global distribution, purchasers of the first semen could find
they have a significant advantage over fellow breeders.
“The industry has never seen a bull perform so consistently across global
indexes at this extremely high level,” comments Mr Harries. “Supershot boasts a
highly impressive GTPI of 2563, 3528 GLPI in Canada, 3413 PFT in Italy, 162
RZG in Germany, not forgetting his PLI of £281 here in the UK.”
On every base, Supershot demonstrates consistent key strengths, milk, health
and fitness traits combined with highly desirable conformation. December figures
on the US base show an impressive +2,366 lbs of milk, with +174 lbs combined
fat and protein and +7.4 for productive life. Sired by the former No.1 GTPI sire,
Seagull-Bay Supersire, and from the No.1 Superstition daughter in Europe,
Supershot’s impressive credentials come as no surprise. With his dam, Rose
Super Shot, now in first lactation and already classified VG 86, confidence in his
figures has never been stronger.
With the advent of genomic testing, breeders have demonstrated an increasing
need to access high ranking bulls at an early age and the opportunity that
Supershot brings is unique in his offering.
