Two explanations of how to write events on arms. 1. Find your swimmer in the alphabetized list. The event # is first followed by heat/lane. All swimmers are in 2, 3 or 4 events. Write on the inside of swimmer's arm with a sharpie. (Include relays and the order number in the relay in ( )) . Most swimmers find a description of the event helpful such as fr for freestyle. For example an arm would look like this (E is for event, H is for heat, and L is for lane). EHL 3 1 6 (3) relay 19 1 6 IM 47 1 4 fly 57 1 6 br If you are unsure of what to do, just come on Saturday. 2. Please take the time to mark your child's arm. This will save LOTS of time. Please check in with the age group parent so we will know your child is present. If you have never marked arms, it can be a bit confusing. Here is an example. Let me also give an explanation of what the numbers mean. I will use my daughter's entry for this. (You can skip my part if you have marked arms before!) 40 Lauer, Sarah-Female-Age 12-Ind/Rel: 3/1 means that Sarah is swimmer number 40, she is a 12 year-old girl and swimming 3 individual events and 1 relay. #3 Mixed 11-12 200 Medley Relay (3) NT 1/6 means she is swimming event number 3 which is a relay with both boys and girls. In a medley relay each swimmer swims a different stroke. Each swimmer does a 50 which times 4 is 200. Sarah is swimming third. There is no previous time for this team. They are in heat 1 swimming in lane 6. The order for a medley relay is back, breast, butterfly and free. (Easy to remember because they are in alphabetical order) #19 Girls 11-12 100 IM NT 1/6 means Sarah is swimming an individual medley. There is no previous time for her. She is swimming in heat 1 in lane 6. The order for an IM is butterfly, back, breast, free. She will swim 25 of each stroke which adds up to 100. #47 Girls 11-12 50 fly NT 1/4 means with no previous time, Sarah is swimming the 50 butterfly in heat 1 in lane 4. # 57 Girls 11-12 50 Breast NT 1/6 means with no previous time, she is swimming the 50 breast stroke in heat 1 in lane 6. If there is an XNT it means the swimmer has no previous time and is swimming in this meet as an exhibition swimmer. You might also note that except for the mixed relays, girls swim odd numbered events and boys swim the even numbered ones. For 8 and under and 9-10 relays (1) and (3) start at the blocks and (2) and (4) are at the turn end of the pool. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on Saturday.
