Imagine reaches $3M, and rising, for new State Library building
The exterior of the new State Library of Queensland is fast becoming an iconic feature on the
Brisbane cityscape, with an interior soon to match.
Ms Lea Giles-Peters, the State Librarian, said the Queensland Library Foundation has so far raised over $3 million to enhance the new State Library building as part of its Imagine fundraising campaign.
“This is a wonderful achievement and with the support and generosity of the many
Queenslanders who have donated, the State Library will showcase our heritage in true
Queensland style ,” she said.
Funding has supported the:
Queensland Terrace (anonymous donor) – this grand, open-air room is a place for public and private functions and features community treasures from around the state
Talbot Family Treasures Wall – a 25m linear display wall showcases the remarkable depth and diversity of Queensland’s rare and historically significant items
Tim Fairfax Newspaper Reading Room – read the news from today and yesteryear
John Oxley Library – Queensland’s unique heritage collection of history and culture
Bank of Queensland Heritage Collections Learning Room – a variety of rooms to learn, discover and view the State Library’s heritage collections

“The enhancement of these spaces will help to create a unique cultural attraction that will further strengthen the State Library of Queensland as the leading cultural repository of
Queensland’s documentary heritage in the world,” said Ms Giles-Peters.
“However there are still many opportunities for people to be involved in the new building.”
President of the Foundation Council, Neil Roberts, also acknowledged the Council members who helped to achieve this success.
“It is due to the hard work and support of the Council that the
Imagine campaign has been so successful to date, and will continue to be successful in the lead-up to the opening of the new
State Library in November, ” said Mr Roberts.
