Vacancy Nutrition & Health Scientist (M/F) Company: Cargill R&D Centre Europe: www.cargill.com Department: Global Nutrition, Regulatory and Scientific Affairs, FIS Platform Reporting to/hierarchy: Senior Nutrition Scientist Europe Function details: This person will coordinate and execute the human nutrition research programs of Cargill’s Global Food Research and Business Units (BU) to define metabolism and functionality of selected food components/ingredients, leading to the validation of Health and Nutrition Claims. He/She supports the Health and Nutrition advisory function to BU's and Corporation, in alignment with identified strategies. As experience is gained, this person takes an active role in creatively defining projects or programs to highlight nutritional benefits for Cargill BU portfolio. Expectations for this role include: • • • • • • Helps prepare research protocols for in vitro, pre-clinical and clinical trials and feasibility studies which support the strategic technology plans for BU ingredients. This includes the drafting of research plans/protocols and assistance with clinical trial completion and subsequent data reporting according to Good Clinical Practice guidelines, in compliance with Cargill internal policies for studies. Assists in discussing protocol needs with selected research groups (CRO’s) and/or universities to assure proper resource allocation and feasibility of research plans. Tracks and communicates new developments in the Nutrition & Health field and literature. Helps organize the required research contracts and insurance needs through collaboration with the respective legal support functions. Coordinates the timely initiation and completion of studies, their monitoring, reporting and maintenance of permanent study files. Helps to provide scientific/technical support to the BU's in customer events, training sessions, product or benefit claim related communications, as well as in scientific/technical conferences and trade events. Over time, will develop a role in recommending nutritional initiatives to BU and challenging BU on it. Supports organization & maintenance of data bases for the R&D family in the area of nutrition and health. Documents work in internal reports, patent disclosures and external publications as appropriate. Communicates results and progress internally and externally through oral presentations and written reports. Works well independently as well as in a team in a fast moving, market driven environment. Stays for a minimum of 3 years in this job. Education and qualifications: • • • • • • • • • • • • PhD or higher experienced MSc: in Human Nutritional Sciences or in Biomedical Sciences/Physiology with an option in, preferably human, Nutrition. Sound knowledge of the chemical compounds of food and how they are metabolized, and the subsequent impacts on physiological systems in the human body. Experience with carbohydrate metabolism required. Experience in defining, organizing and executing clinical experimentation/studies. Experience in publishing and communication of science. Strong statistics knowledge highly desirable. Knowledge of, primarily European, regulations on health and nutrition claims for foods is a plus. Good basic representation and discussion skills. Ability to communicate and build support for scientific ideas with a non-scientific audience. Basic understanding of Nutrition & Health market (companies, products, food supplements, consumer health concerns). Minimum industrial/commercial food experience, preferably in consumer food products or in food ingredients: 2 years as PhD or 5 years as MSc. PC literate (Excel, Powerpoint, Word, …).
