Higher Art and Design Essay Plan – Part 2 Contemporary Artist Discuss examples of still life by two artists from different movements or periods. To what extent do you consider these examples to be typical of each artist’s style or associated movement? Explain why they are considered important artists. Up to now you have looked at Matisse (a member of the Fauvist movement) and the Scottish Colourists. These are artists who have an important link and who all worked during a similar time period (early 20th Century). Your task now is to research a modern still life artist who has worked within the last 25 years. You will find and research this artist yourself. Word count should be approximately 400 – 500 words. You will work through the same process as you did before, finding two examples of their work and discussing them. Use the other sheets you have to remind yourself of what to do. Make sure that any artist you select has enough biographical information available and information on what influences and inspires them. This information is very important! You must also find two decent images of their work which includes information such as date created, media used etc. When writing about your contemporary artist you should discuss what you think might have influenced their work. Once you have completed this you are to compare your modern artist with either Matisse or your chosen Scottish Colourist. Do not use both! Remember it is important that you include your own personal opinions when discussing the work of your artists! Always give reasons to support your thoughts and opinions!
