Researching Information
Internet Safety
The Statutory Requirements for Using ICT state that:
“Pupils should demonstrate, when and where appropriate, knowledge and understanding of e-safety including
acceptable online behaviour”
This is an all encompassing statement which pervades all aspects of ICT activity at all levels. Therefore, pupils from P1P7 should have the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of Internet safety and acceptable online
behaviour, at a level appropriate to their age and understanding.
This progression refers to resources from CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre) which can be found at
www.thinkuknow.co.uk and are free for teachers to download after registering with the site. They offer two educational
programmes – Hector’s World for 5-7 year olds and the Cyber Café for 8-10 year olds. The Cyber Café has been
developed in partnership with Gridclub and the Internet Proficiency Scheme. The guidance below includes links to
further e-safety resources for pupils and parents.
