SENIOR RESEARCH ASSOCIATE – SENIOR MASS SPECTROMETRIST Institute of Metabolic Science, Core Biochemical Assay Laboratory Ref No: RG06963. Salary: £38,511 to £48,743 Limit of tenure applies* We are looking for a senior mass spectrometrist with a strong interest in developing new proteomics assays for endocrine markers. The position funded by Medimmune is based in the University of Cambridge, Institute of Metabolic Science, Core Biochemical Assay Laboratory (CBAL) on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. You will work alongside Prof Fiona Gribble and Dr Frank Reimann in the Institute of Metabolic Science, and scientists at MedImmune/AstraZeneca, to measure endocrine peptides related to metabolic control. The successful applicant will develop the research objectives and assist in preparation of proposals and application to funding bodies. An important part of the role will be analysis of data, the presentation of research work and data within the Institute, nationally and internationally and to prepare and submit research for publication in peer-reviewed journals. You will also assist in providing instruction to research scientists and graduate students in the use of specialist mass spectroscopy techniques. Key Responsibilities: - Leadership of R&D mass spectrometry service - Design, development and running of new peptidomics assays - To undertake proteomics research work with laboratory scientists, clinicians and industrial collaborators - Analysis and interpretation of data Essential Criteria: - A PhD in biochemistry or a related biological sciences discipline. - Proven track record of substantial experience in peptide assay development using an orbitrap or similar mass spectrometry system - Substantial experience in proteomics analyses - Ability to engage and communicate with people from multiple clinical and biological disciplines. - Ability to demonstrate accurate and very clear laboratory records - Evidence of ability to work as part of a research team and to organise and participate in collaborative research initiatives and projects - Significant and demonstrable experience in dealing with data acquisition and analysis protocols in the field of mass spectrometry - Evidence of ability to prepare and analyse data for publication in scientific journals and to present scientific data to peers in seminars and at conferences. - Evidence of ability to impart knowledge and skills to members of the research team Desirable Criteria: - Experience with development of Mass Spectrometric assays for hormones in serum, urine, saliva and other sample matrices - Willing to teach other members of the CBAL team MS assay development skills Applications, including CV and covering letter should be submitted on-line via Apply on advertisement position Ref.
