The IPB is an international research institute located on the Weinberg-campus of the
Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg.
The Department of Cell and Metabolic BiologyResearch group Isoprenoid Metabolism
and Glandular Trichomes has an opening for one
Postdoctoral scientist in plant synthetic biology
This three-year position is funded in the frame of an ERA-SynBio project
(https://www.erasynbio.eu) coordinated by Alain Tissier with Phil Wigge (University of
Cambridge Sainsbury Laboratory) and Egils Stalidzans (Latvia University of Agriculture)
as collaborators. The objective of the project is to design and develop artificial transcription networks that are responsive to internal (flowering) or external signals (temperature).
These networks will then be used to produce metabolites of interest by metabolic
engineering approaches. The tasks for this position include the development of artificial
signal propagation systems in the plant, based on Transcription Activator-Like Effectors
(TALEs) and the connection of these signal propagation modules upstream to a flowering
signal and downstream to terpenoid biosynthesis pathways.
We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a strong background in molecular
biology, in particular with experience with modular cloning technologies (e.g. Golden
Gate) and/or with TALEs and/or cell-to-cell protein mobility and/or in metabolic engineering. The successful candidate will be rigorous yet innovation-oriented, have the capacity
to work autonomously and to supervise a laboratory assistant (also funded in the project)
and students. Scientific integrity and excellent oral and written communication skills are
essential.
The salary and social benefits are based on German federal state standards (TV-L).
Please send a letter of application outlining research experience and interests, a CV
including a list of publications, at least two references and other supporting documents
