Salary: £28,982 to £37,768
Limit of tenure applies*
Due to the continued growth and expansion of the research programmes of the Disease
Model Core, Wellcome Trust-MRC Institute of Metabolic Science, applications are invited for
a position funded by the Wellcome Trust for a Technologist in Metabolism.

development for murine metabolic and/or cardiovascular phenotyping, give training on
specialized techniques, experimental design and interpretation of data and be responsible
for quality control of data. You will be required to design, develop and implement new
experimental methodologies including stable isotope studies and hyperinsulinaemic clamps
and other metabolic studies. An important part of the role is to develop new protocols by
learning new techniques at collaborating laboratories throughout the world. You will assess
future workloads and requirements for space and use of the equipment.
The work involves collaboration with members of the research consortium and working with
individuals on the programme at all levels from more junior technical staff through to senior
scientists. You will also co-ordinate interactions between the murine programme and
research programmes in collaborating organisations. Good management skills will be
advantage as you will be expected to manage the core animal facility staff in the Technical

Possession of, or the ability to be trained to hold, Home Office Licence modules 1-5
Knowledge of HO guidelines in relation to animal experimentation will be an
advantage
Wide-ranging experience of working within a laboratory animal facility including
substantial experience of work as scientific officer, or equivalent, in a murine
phenotyping unit and, in particular, expertise in experimental methodologies for
stable isotope studies related to metabolism and expertise in metabolic phenotyping
technology.



The ability to perform complex experimental protocols on laboratory animals, in
particular using in vivo related technologies and metabolic phenotyping equipment
