Welcome to Livingston, Texas
We are grateful that you have chosen to participate in the work of MDS.
Rebuilding homes, lives and hope after disasters has its challenges but
also many joys. We pray that you will be stretched but also encouraged as
you join the MDS team to share God’s love by being His hands and feet to
those affected by disasters.
Livingston, Texas is 75 miles north east of Houston. This area was
devastated by hurricane Rita in 2005. Even though it is 100 miles inland
from the Gulf by Lake Livingston it received severe damage from high
winds. This area may not show many visible signs of the storm any more
however many lives have been changed forever. The majority of
Livingston has recovered well, however there are several small pockets, and homes scattered about, that are still
unlivable. Two years after the storm 54 families are still in FEMA trailers with little being done to help them
recover. The work in this area will include home numerous rehabs and a new home. Winter tourism and logging
are the major industries that that provide employment to this region.
Prior to your arrival, here are a few helpful hints that you should share with your group. If there are any further
questions, please contact the Livingston project office.
Project Accommodations
Your residence for your time of service will be at the Trinity Pines Conference Center. Bunk houses and/or RV’s
will be used for sleeping. Showers, restrooms, a kitchen, and dining area will be located in the adjacent
conference center.
Directions
FROM HOUSTON VIA I-45: Take exit #113 as you approach Huntsville. This feeds into Hwy 19
north. Travel 20+ miles into Trinity and turn right at the second light onto Hwy 94. Go only 1/4
mile and turn right at blinking yellow light onto Hwy 356. Trinity Pines is 4+ miles down on the left.
FROM DALLAS VIA I-45: Exit #118 as you approach Huntsville. Turn left under 45, thru light and
right onto hwy 75. Go 1/4+ and turn left on FM 2821. Go 2-3 miles and turn left on Hwy 19 north.
Go 17+ miles into Trinity and turn right at second light onto Hwy 94. Go 1/4+ miles and turn right
at blinking yellow light onto Hwy 356. Go 4+ miles and Trinity Pines is on the left.
