Twin Falls Pisgah National Park 08-15-10 Directions: From our 1:30 p.m. departure point at the University Square Shopping Center on US 276 in Greenville, take US 276 north to Travelers Rest then bear right and travel north on US 25 through Travelers Rest to Flat Rock, NC: Exit 5. Turn left on Greenville Hwy to Flat Rock. In downtown Flat Rock, turn left on Little River Rd passing the Carl Sandburg home. After four miles, turn left on Crab Creek Rd and continue for another eleven miles to NC Hwy 64. Turn left on NC 64 for three miles to Brevard, NC. Continue straight at the signal light on US Hwy 276 and enter the Pisgah National Park. Continue for about two miles to the Ranger Station where we will stop for a restroom break. Depart the Ranger Station by taking a right on US 276 for ½ mile then right on gravel road 477. Continue on Rd 477 for 1.6 miles until reaching the Horse Stables. Park at the stables as the road is blocked for vehicle travel beyond this point. Hike Description: (Rd 477 is washed out) From the Horse Stables, we will walk about .7 miles up Rd 477 and pick up the trail head on the right. The trail follows a river all the way to the falls. Over the course of about two miles, we will cross the river on about a dozen foot bridges. The trail flows through a beautiful forest of Popular and Hemlock trees under pinned with ferns in season. While this hike is an “in and out”, we will follow a different trail in sections on the return trip back to the parking lot.
