7:30 AM – 3:30 PM
SALARY RANGE
GENERAL DUTIES:
The Pre-K Teacher is responsible for providing a safe and supervised educational setting for children while they are in the learning
environment (classroom, outdoor play area, and field trips). Responsible for promoting the social, emotional, physical and cognitive
development of children by providing on-going assessments on progress and facilitating a smooth transition into kindergarten.
Maintain an effective record keeping system to manage information in order to ensure maximum benefits to children; ensure that all
written reports are clear, accurate and grammatically correct.

Meet the needs of all children including those with special needs and those who are gifted, all with consideration of cultural
diversity
Develop and implement lesson plans, which reflect mandated domains, elements and indicators, cultural influence; promote
the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of children.
Individualized activities to reflect the unique needs and strengths of all children in the classroom.
Follow a consistent schedule which includes small & large group experiences, work time, music & movement, large & small
motor activities, skill development, two meals, effective transition between activities, conduct daily observation of children.
Complete and enter data into Teaching Strategies Gold software in order to submit pre, mid and post outcome reports.
Work with special needs children in the classroom to develop a collaborative approach that benefits all children in the
classroom and meets the needs as specified on IFSP/IEP.
Maintain a healthy and safe classroom and playground environment organized for child & teacher learning.
Conduct daily health observation (communicable diseases, child abuse & neglect) and report suspicions of physical, sexual,
emotional abuse and/or neglect of children

Conduct at least two (2) home visits with parents of enrolled children focusing on the parental role as prime educator of their
children or required visits.
Conduct at least two (2) parent conferences to share and gain information on children’s progress, needs, and interests including
child’s attendance or required conferences.
Assess physical, social, emotional and cognitive development and learning readiness of children using assigned tools, sharing
results with parents, and planning an individual program plan to meet child’s needs. Report and maintain attendance reports,
child plus, food service reports, and other documents/records. Responsible for completing all reporting and closeout reports by
mid-May of each year.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Demonstrate knowledge of child growth and development and teaching strategies.
2. Ability to apply early childhood development theory in daily classroom activities, and adapt to the individual needs of children
3. Skills in Early Childhood Education curriculum and assessment: teaching, psychology, family development, health & physical
development, mathematics, science, children’s literature, child abuse & neglect symptoms and laws
4. Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing
5. Demonstrate good listening skills
6. Working knowledge of available community resources and MS child care regulations and laws
7. Must have leadership, observation and supervisory skills as well as, respect for individual differences
8. Ability to apply developmentally appropriate practices for young children in a classroom setting, Should be able to do regular
kneeling, bending and sitting on the floor and occasionally lift up to 50lbs
9. Must emphasize fluency in the language spoken by families serviced in the program
10. Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Mississippi Teaching License (116, 120, or 150-153 Endorsements)
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS






Must pass initial criminal background check and recheck every five (5) years
Must have an initial certified 121 immunization record
Must have an initial physical examination with a reexamination every two (2) years
Must have a negative TB test and recheck done annually
Must pass initial drug screen and random screening when required
Must be Pediatric CPR/First Aid certified upon employment
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
 Adhere to Standards of Conduct to ensure confidentiality of information of families, children, and other staff members
by using positive methods within agency guidelines and all federally mandated policies, procedures and regulations
 Attend meetings, training and appropriate professional development activities as required by federal, state and local
regulations
 Provide own transportation to work site and available to work flexible hours as required
