COASTAL ORGANISM PROJECT
Outcomes:
CZON-1 Describe the characteristics of major types of coastal zones;
CZON-6 Identify and explain the importance of coastal zones as regions potentially rich in resources;
CZON-8 List and discuss the human interactions with the processes involved in the coastal zone environment;
CZON-9 Define major sources of pollution affecting coastal zones and their potential effects on the environment.

Due Date: MONDAY April 5
Task:
1. To research your organism, using both internet and
print sources.
2. To complete the research notes graphic organizer.
3. Using your research notes, create a powerpoint
presentation.
4. Present your organism to the class.
What to Include in Your Presentation:

Description: physical description, common name, scientific name, picture

Habitat: Where does your organism live (geographically)? Which tidal zone (subtidal,
intertidal or supratidal)?

Energy: How does your animal get energy (photosynthesis or food)? What does it eat?
Is it a carnivore, herbivore or omnivore?

Predators: What are your organism’s predators?

Reproduction: When, how and how often does your species reproduce?

Adaptations: How has your organism adapted to help it survive in its habitat?

Organism as Resource: Do humans use your organism as a resource? If so, how is it
used? What is it used for? How is it harvested?

Negative Human Interactions/Pollution: How is your organism affected negatively
by humans?

Interesting/Unique Facts: at least FOUR additional facts about your species

section & date).
Appropriate length (10-15 slides).
Good balance of text and graphics (pictures, maps, diagrams etc.) on
each slide.
Visually pleasing slides (font choice, font size, backgrounds, layout
