International Seminar on India – Kazakhstan: Prospects for a Strategic Partnership January 18 – 19, 2011, New Delhi Programme India – Central Asia Foundation, New Delhi - 110048 Page 1 of 5 About the Seminar The India-Central Asia Foundation (ICAF) was formed in April 2005 as a registered Society in New Delhi. It is a Track II initiative to advance the common interest between India and Central Asia. ICAF has already established good contacts with prominent research/academic institutions and distinguished scholars in Central Asia. The current President is Mr. K Santhanam, Distinguished Scientist, and the Vice-President is Mr. K Raghunath, former Foreign Secretary of India. As part of its ongoing research activities and Track II functions, ICAF has organized first India – Kazakhstan bilateral Seminar in 2006. The present Seminar is the 2nd in the series and is being organized jointly by ICAF and the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Seminar would have a sharp focus on prospects for strategic partnership while addressing the issues of security challenges, science & technology and the opportunity for cooperation in areas of mutual interest. India has been laying considerable importance in enhancing economic, political and security linkages with Kazakhstan. The Seminar would try to explore and develop institutional linkages for promoting a higher level of understanding and appreciation of strategic partnership between India and Kazakhstan. There would be about 8 paper contributors from India and a matching number from the Kazakh side. Scholars from ICAF, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies (MAKAIAS), Kolkata, Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS), New Delhi, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, Global India Foundation (GIF), Kolkata India and the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies (KazISS), Almaty would make presentations at the Seminar.
