Dear Parents/Carers, We have great pleasure in announcing the date for this year’s Book Week: Monday 27th February-Friday 2nd March. A variety of activities have been organised throughout this week to build upon the children’s love of books and reading. These include: Scholastic book fair to purchase books for all ages, there will be two more extra bookcases than last year! Storytellers will be visiting and performing for classes across the school On World Book Day (which is the Thursday of Book Week) everyone, children and staff, are invited to dress up as a character from a book-just for fun! Classes will pair up during the week (for example, Y6 and Y3) and spend time reading to and listening to each other There will also be a competition running, which is open from now until Thursday 23rd February. All children are encouraged to submit an entry and have the opportunity to win a book voucher to spend at the book fair. The competition details follow: Children are being asked to design their own front cover for the book which has been their core text this half term, using a variety of materials. Go to town and think outside of the box (could you… use leaves, bubble wrap, scraps of material, wool, recycle food packaging etc). There will be one voucher allocated to each year group and a sweet treat for every entry! Please stick to no larger than A3 size. The core texts are as follows: Nursery-The Naughty Bus Reception- Aaaarrgghh! Spider! Year 1- The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark Year 2-Man on the Moon (A day in the life of Bob) Year 3- Greek Myths and Legends Year 4-Ice palace Year 5- Under the Moon and Over the Sea: A collection of Caribbean poems Year 6- The London Eye Mystery Perhaps you can begin working on this over half term and it will then give you plenty of time to get your design completed before the deadline date. We look forward to receiving your entries. Best wishes, Miss Sanghara
