Dear Parents and Carers,
From Thursday 26th February to Thursday 5th March we will be hosting a special Book
Week where the children will be given the opportunity to explore books in class and through
a variety of workshops. This year World Book Day is on Thursday 5th March and all the
children will be receiving a £1.00 voucher to spend in participating bookshops during March.
The children can also spend their voucher at our book fair
during our book week.
The Scholastic Book fair will be in school for the duration of
our Book Week. This will contain books which are age
appropriate and are from a selection of different authors.
Your child will be sent home with a brochure which shows a
selection of these books which we will have on sale, they will also be given an opportunity to
look at the books once they arrive.
The Book fair will be open for parents/carers to come in and look at after school on
Wednesday 25th until 6.00pm to co-inside with the parents evening and also on Monday 2nd
and Tuesday 3rd March from 8.40-9.20am. There will be the chance to buy or order books
directly from the school, all orders will need to be received by Tuesday 3rd March.
Please remember that the school will receive commission for every book sold and this is
used to update and develop class libraries and resources.
On the 4th March we are delighted to have the author Douglas Vallgren and illustrator Karl
Newson come into school to deliver writing and illustrating workshops. Together they
created the book ‘Rupert the Dinosaur’ which Douglas wrote for his daughter who was a
former pupil at Costessey Infant School! You can visit their website in advance for a sneakpeak at the book www.rupertthedinosaur.com
We would like the children to dress up as their favourite book character on World Book
Day which is Thursday 5th March. We encourage children to be as creative as possible by
making costumes or adapting clothes to fit in with their chosen character. There will be a
prize for the best dressed in each class!
I am looking for poster designers to help advertise our Costessey Junior School Book Week
and invite any children to submit a design. There will be a winner chosen from Year 3, Year 4,
Year 5 and Year 6. The winners will receive a book of their choice from the book fair.
The posters will be printed and displayed around school throughout Book Week. The closing
date for entries is Monday 23rd February. Please hand all posters to Miss Musgrave or to
the school office.
The poster should be designed on an A4 sheet of paper and needs to show the dates of our
Book Week: Thursday 26th February to Thursday 5th March. Please write your name and class
on the back of your poster. Happy designing!
On Tuesday 3rd there will be a special ‘Gruffalo’ themed hot school dinner.
On World Book Day (Thursday 5th March) there will be a special
‘Paddington Bear’ themed hot school dinner.
Thank you all for your support with our Costessey Book Week. We hope that the children will
have a fun packed week and enjoy the special activities we have planned for them.
