Work Instruction Decontaminate wool shed Who’s responsible? Treatment When to use Follow this work instruction to decontaminate a wool shed. Before you begin Ensure: you have the required equipment and supplies the site and buildings have been prepared for decontamination (see Decontamination site preparation work instruction). Work instruction Shearing equipment Step Action 1 Hand wipe all fixed shearing equipment with approved disinfectant solution. 2 Dismantle all other shearing equipment and soak in disinfectant for 10 minutes. 3 Dry equipment using a cotton towel or if possible place in direct sunlight. Below floor level Step Action 1 Check with the Treatment Manager in regards to access to the below floor level. 2 Consult with the Key Decision Maker and confirm when the wool shed was last used: If… then… not used within the previous two weeks used within the previous two weeks use the mist spray to saturate below floor level with approved disinfectant solution. © Ministry for Primary Industries foam the below floor level area remove a minimum of 150mm of loose material stack and spray this in preparation for burial re-foam the ground after the 150mm loose material has been removed (ensure all wooden support timbers and ground are foamed). Version 1.0 Page 1 of 3 Shearing stand Step Action 1 Foam the shearing stand floor, beginning at the board area in front of the holding pens. 2 Working from bottom to top, foam 3 metres up the walls. 3 Saturate with mist spray any remaining walls above 3 metres, and the ceilings. 4 Check with Treatment Manager before proceeding. 5 Clean floor and lower half of walls using water blaster. 6 Check with Treatment Manager before proceeding. 7 Re-disinfect all areas and surfaces by saturate mist spraying. 8 Check with Treatment Manager for clearance. Holding pens and internal races Step Action 1 Foam the floor grating of all holding pens and races. 2 Working from bottom to top, foam 3 metres up the walls. 3 Saturate with mist spray any remaining walls above 3 metres, and the ceilings. 4 Check with Treatment Manager before proceeding. 5 6 Clean entire area using water blaster to remove bulk waste. Pay attention to areas between gratings. Remove all loose/hard material from wooden gratings with a spade and trowel. 7 Dispose of waste material as advised by your Treatment Manager. 8 Give entire grating area a final rinse to remove all waste. 9 Check with Treatment Manager before proceeding. 10 Re-disinfect all areas and surfaces by saturate mist spraying. 11 Check with Treatment Manager for clearance. Yards and external races Step Action 1 If there are bulk or large volumes of contaminated materials request the Treatment Manager organise a front end loader to remove all contaminated materials from the external or internal races. Foam ground area within yards, fences and pens. 2 © Ministry for Primary Industries Version 1.0 Page 2 of 3 3 Working from bottom to top, foam 3 metres up any walls or support timbers. 4 Saturate with mist spray the ceiling and any remaining walls or support timbers above 3 metres. Ensure all sides of gates and timber are foamed, pay particular attention to high contact areas. Check with Treatment Manager before proceeding. 5 6 7 8 Clean entire area using water blaster to remove bulk waste. Pay attention to areas between gratings. Remove all contaminated material using a front end loader, if required. 9 Dispose of contaminated material as advised by your Treatment Manager. 10 Give entire area a final rinse to remove all waste. 11 Check with Treatment Manager before proceeding. 12 Re-disinfect all areas and surfaces by saturate mist spraying. 13 Check with Treatment Manager for clearance. Ancillary rooms (if any) Step Action 1 Foam floors within ancillary rooms. 2 Working from bottom to top, foam 3 metres up the walls. 3 Saturate with mist spray any remaining walls above 3 metres, and the ceilings. 4 Check with Treatment Manager before proceeding. 5 Clean floor and lower half of walls using water blaster. 6 Check with Treatment Manager before proceeding. 7 Re-disinfect by saturate mist spraying of all areas and surfaces. 8 Check with Treatment Manager for clearance.
