Hi everyone. This is to inform you that lab values for potassium will change slightly. This is related to a
change in practice. Current values were reflective of serum potassium levels (drawn in red top tubes).
The new values will reflect our current practice of drawing samples in the light green top tube (plasma
potassium levels).
Effective midnight Monday February 23, 2009 the new ranges for plasma potassium will be as follows:
Normal 3.3 – 4.8 mEq/L
Crisis Low 2.5 mEq/L and below
Crisis High 6.2 mEq/L and above
