LEARNING RESOURCES: When you register for a course, you take on a big responsibility. If you want to complete this class successfully, below are some of the things I expect you take responsibility for. a. Come to class every day. Each class builds on the preceding ones. Gaps in your knowledge can be detrimental. 4. b. Be on time. Stragglers are very disruptive. It also wastes your money. If you have to leave early, please sit at the back of the class and close to the door. c. Do the assigned homework. You cannot learn math without doing math. The more you practice, the better you get. Be prepared to spend an average of 2 hours a day outside class. Try to get help as soon as possible. The Math lab (Rm 5119) is a good place to get additional help. The Student Assistance Center (Be1106) is another place to get free tutoring. Sign up early. d. Come to my office hours whenever you need extra help. e. Get to know at least one of your classmates. If you miss a class, call a classmate to get the notes and assignment. Get together with other classmates to work on problems you are having difficulty. The study lounge on the 5th floor in front of elevators is a good place to study together. f. Read the syllabus thoroughly and keep a file of all your returned work. g. Check our class website (http://seattlecentral.org/faculty/feltiu) regularly. Let me know as soon as possible if you see any errors in scores posted. 7. FEEDBACK AND EVALUATION: A 30-minute quiz will be given every Friday during the week with no chapter exams. Homework problems will be randomly selected and corrected. There will be three 50-minute chapter exams given during the quarter. Final exam will be comprehensive and will cover all materials. At least two group projects will be given. There are NO MAKE-UPS FOR QUIZZES OR EXAMS. LATE HOMEWORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Two lowest homework, two class work and one quiz scores will be dropped by the end of the quarter. Lowest exam score will be replaced by your final exam, if your final exam (appropriately scaled) is higher. Grading Policy: Grades will be based on the following: Homework and class work 10% Group projects 10% Quizzes 10% Chapter Exams 45% Final Exam 25% The average percentage from above will have the following numerical & letter grades: (example: 95% =4.0, 3.0=85%, 2.0=70%) 95 - 100 4.0 A+ 90 - 94 3.5 - 3.9 A 80 - 85 2.5 - 3.4 B 65 - 79 1.5 - 2.4 C (2.2 = 75%) 51 - 64 0.7 - 1.4 D 50 or below 0.0 F (Please fill out the form below and turn in at the end of class) SYLLABUS AGREEMENT (your name will be dropped from my roster if I don’t get this by the 10th day of the quarter) Class______________ Time ____________ I read, understand and accept the course policies.
