Student Art Contest
Presented by the Janice Ireland Trust
CALL FOR ENTRIES: Attention schools and teachers, it's that time of year again when the Humane Society of Pulaski County hosts
it's annual "Be Kind to Animals" Student Art Contest. The purpose of the contest is to get children to notice and think about caring for
animals and to help to keep the arts alive in our schools and homes.
EXHIBITION RULES: Deadline is March 31, 2014
Age Categories: The art competition is free to enter and open to any Arkansas student in grades kindergarten - 12th grade. Last year's
contest saw over 800 individual entries, and an increase in the number of public, private and home school participants. Though there
is no entry fee, there are prizes and cash awarded to each of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.
Media and Size: The artwork may vary from crayon and finger paints, pen and ink to acrylics, oils, pastels to multimedia. Entries
should be on paper no larger than 11 X 17 and should not be mounted.
Theme: Artwork should reflect the theme, "Be Kind to Animals" and may include people and/or animals in a humane, engaging, and
positive manner. Artwork may include a slogan or a few words explaining the theme. Consider topics such as proper pet care, pet
over-population, concern for wildlife and endangered species, careers in animal work, adopting homeless pets, spay/neuter, etc.
ORIGINAL WORK ONLY.
Identification: Please write the name of the artist and their age on the back of the artwork. Complete and drop off the form below
with artwork to: Art Contest, Humane Society of Pulaski County, 14600 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock, AR 72210; or mail to
HSPC, P.O. Box 95156, North Little Rock, AR 72190.
Awards and Prizes: Cool prizes, including cash for the Top Winner, pizza certificates and movie tickets, will be presented in
categories determined by the number of entrants. Winners will be judged on basis of creativity, message, and originality.
Art Advice: Make it colorful. Fill up the whole page. Feel free to write a slogan on the picture. Our Animal Art Contest for children
is a fantastic way to spread the message of love for animals. What does Being Kind to Animals mean to you? Maybe it's spay or
neuter your pets, identifying your pets with tags, never tolerate animal cruelty. Draw a picture about it and you could win.
Fundraising Online Auction: Submitted artwork becomes the property of HSPC and may be selected to be included in an
online auction held in May, 2014 to raise funds to help the HSPC Shelter animals. Artwork will not be returned.
