Student Essay and Art Contest for participants in Preschool-12 th
grade
PURPOSE: The purpose of the contest is to recognize the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther
King Jr. and the relevance of his teachings.
Task: Write an essay, poem or letter of no more than 250 words or submit artwork which responds to one of these quotes delivered by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
"I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear."
ENTRY RULES: All students in Preschool-12 th grade are eligible (only one entry per student).
On the back of each entry include the student’s full name, grade, school, home address, and telephone number. All essays and artwork must be the original work of the student whose name appears on it. Entries must be received at the Missoulian by January 7, 2013. Winners will be featured in the Missoulian. First, second and third place awards of $50, $20, and $15 will be presented in each of the six categories: Essay/Poem/Letter for Grades 3-5, 6-8, 9-12; Artwork for 3-5, 6-8, 9-12. Gift certificates and other prizes will be awarded for Artwork in the Pre-2 category. Handwritten or typed compositions of 250 words or less will be accepted. Artwork may be any medium on 8.5 X 11 inch paper.
