Nulla Vale Pyalong West Landcare Group Members of Nulla Vale Pyalong West Landcare Group live in the granite country west of Pyalong. The Group has been operating for nearly ten years. Over the years, the Group has undertaken many projects – some current projects are described below. You are welcome to contact the group and participate in various projects and social events run by the Group. The Forest Link Project Nulla Vale Pyalong West Landcare Group is creating a vegetation link between the Cobaw Forest in the south west and Tooborac Forest in the north east of the upper Mollisons Creek Catchment. The link joins up existing remnants and vegetated roadways with revegetation corridors. Many landholders have provided land, time and money for the project and Landcare working bees have provided labour for fencing and planting. The Granite Country Seed Orchard Project A survey of the vegetation across the Granite Country by the Landcare Group produced a list of rare or threatened plants. To improve the numbers and distribution of these plants, the Group is establishing a network of Seed Orchards. Seed collected from the Seed Orchards will be used in revegetation projects. The first seed orchard was established in 2004 on private land. In 2005, the Group received an Envirofund Grant to establish a seed orchard on Mollisons Creek at Nulla Vale. Landowners with an interest in giving a rare or threatened plant a loving home, should contact: Neville Barwick, Phone: 5423 7305 Rabbit Buster Project The Project was partly funded by a Commonwealth Natural Heritage Trust Envirofund Grants and organised by: Peter Sanders, Phone: 9347 6731 or 0412103469 The numbers of rabbits across the granite county is now very low thanks to the efforts of landholders and facilitators over many years. Funding from the State Government (through the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority) has assisted landholders in ripping warrens, removing cover, poisoning and fumigating. This work is continuing – rabbits will return without vigilance – so contact: Bill Chisholm, Phone: 5433 5307 Weed Control Program Weeds are a continuing issue. The Group operates their own spray unit and has some funding to offset the cost of chemicals.
