Children's Ministry....What is it are where do I start? Being a Children's Ministry Leader for Wilston. Bible learning is an important aspect of every child’s growth. It is imperative that kids are introduced to the valuable lessons of the Holy Book from a young age. This will help them to have a solid grounding of the basic principles of our Catholic faith and also give them a good base for their future life. The lessons that kids learn in their formative years make a lasting impression in their minds and stay with them throughout their lives. It is therefore required that kids be taught these important lessons when they are still young. Children ministry focuses on gathering a group of children and imparting Bible lessons to them. Through the ministry the children will learn to relate to the Holy Book and this will feed their interest in knowing more about Jesus and Christianity. Many directors and pastors are on the lookout for innovative methods to get the message of the Lord to the kids. Children’s ministry resources are useful to entice the kids into learning the Bible. Most kids find reading The Bible tough and uninteresting. However it is very important that they be initiated into the Christian way of living from an early age. There is therefore the need of fun and exciting ways to get the message of the Lord across to the children and in a way that they can easily understand. Children’s ministry makes available a plethora of ways to make the kids know about religion, faith and the valuable life lessons. There is always a great demand for interactive methods to impart religious education to children. Some of the interesting and fun ways to teach the Bible while engaging the interest of the children are: Puppet ministry: Puppets are always in fashion and something that the kids have always loved. A puppet ministry can either be elaborate or simple, as you wish. These are a great way to engage the attention of kids. The skits need to be chosen carefully and the children will always want to see more. A puppet show based on Biblical principles is a fun way to teach the kids about the Holy Book. Some puppet are in the Children's liturgy box or you may like to bring a couple socks from home with pinned on paper eyes and let the kids out this week's story.... or give everyone a balloon in the case of a crowd based story and get them to draw a face on their balloon and pretend to be the crowd while you read the story.... have fun with it. Dama bags: also available in the Children's Liturgy box can be used by one person reading while another wears the drama bag and acts out the story in mime. Get the big kids involved: sometimes you may have a small group and it may be better to get the upper primary kids to read or act out the story for the little ones. This works in 2 ways; it gets the big kids more involve in passing on the message and our faith to others and the little ones often like to be involved with the older kids. Use the cheat sheet: My favourite is to just go simple and use the cheat sheet. Get the kids to listen, tell and ask a few question and then work through the worksheets together. Remember that you can never go wrong as long as you ask God to guide you and you continue to .... Live it! Love it! Share it!
