School Policy: Homework Policy Development: 2011 Renewal Date: 2013 Rationale At Fraser Primary School we work together to strengthen the partnership between the home and school. Homework is acknowledged as part of the education process between students, school and home and provides the opportunity for students to consolidate their learning at home. It can be an important link in establishing and maintaining communication between home and school and encourages families to participate actively in talking, listening, playing and sharing interests with children. Purpose The purpose of homework at Fraser PS is to demonstrate that learning is an ongoing process. Homework at Fraser should: positively reinforce and consolidate skills and concepts explored in the classroom be relevant and achievable by the student allow students the opportunity to revise, practise or investigate school based learning, and provide an opportunity for children and parents/carers to talk about their learning Homework should never be seen as or used as a punishment. Parent/carer workshops are held to assist parents/carers in supporting the child/ren’s learning. When setting homework tasks teaching staff value and take into consideration: The importance of students spending time in cultural, leisure and sporting activities outside school hours The complexity of modern family life and the time constraints that can exist.
