Robert Bruce Middle School - Home/School Agreement Children who are supported by their families are likely to perform significantly better in school and beyond than those who are not supported. We want your child to be successful in school so family involvement is very important to us. The School will: 1. Care for your child's safety and happiness. 2. Value children as members of the school community. 3. Be open and welcome opportunities for parents to become involved in the life of the school. 4. Develop a child's sense of responsibility, self-discipline and independence. 5. Encourage children to take care of their surroundings and others around them. 6. Provide relevant information about school matters and your child’s progress, formally and informally. 7. Listen and respond to concerns. 8. Provide a balanced curriculum to meet the individual needs of your child. 9. Encourage high standards of work and behaviour through building good relationships. 10. Let parents/carers know about any concerns or problems that affect their child's work or behaviour. Home Learning Home learning is an important part of the partnership agreement between parents and school. In this agreement ‘Home Learning’ refers to any work or activities which pupils are asked to do outside lesson time, either on their own or with parents or carers. For children of all ages reading together with you at home is very important. Children need time to practise the strategies they are learning at school so that they can grow into confident learners. Reading together forms a major part of our expectations for home learning throughout school. Home learning all years Daily Reading – Our children choose books to take home from the library to be shared with parents for the child to ‘have a go at reading’ with support. Homework – This is regularly set and recorded within the child’s planner. Please check and sign each week. If you feel that there is not enough information or homework being set request a chat with the form teacher. Our expectation of parents and carers is to: 1. Develop my child's sense of responsibility, self discipline and independence. 2. See that my child attends school regularly, arrives and is collected on time, and is properly equipped. 3. Make the school aware of any concerns or problems that may affect my child's work or behaviour e.g. a change in home circumstances. 4. Fully support the school's policies and procedures as outlined in the prospectus and other documents. 5. Support my child in homework and other opportunities for home learning. 6. Attend parents' evenings and discussions about my child's progress. 7. Contact the school on the first day of my child's absence. 8. Give permission for my child to participate in visits during school hours. 9. Give permission for my child to receive medical attention should it be thought necessary by a member of staff. 10. Ensure the school is kept informed of essential changes, such as contact numbers. The pupil's agreement: 1. I will look and listen when someone is talking and politely follow instruction the first time asked. 2. I will follow the school code of conduct. 3. I will be kind to others. 4. I will always work and walk quietly in school and try my best in all I do. 5. I will look after my school and all the things in it. 6. I will remember my core 5 daily. ……………………………………………………………………………………………………… …………………………………………………………………. Home/School Agreement Please sign and return this section.
