Endangered/Threatened or Extinct Species Children’s Book A Shaped Book You will be creating reading books for Dowell Elementary Third Grade students. The books will be informative, creative, fun and on an appropriate reading level. Students at DES will be reading these books at their school so please make sure the books are of high quality. Third graders in Calvert County study the habitats of animals. They discuss content such as limiting factors (food, shelter, water), threats to the animals/plants, interdependence, reasons why the organism is threatened/endangered/extinct, etc. If you follow the rubric seen below, your book will be awesome and all the Third Graders will beg to have the book read to them… over and over again. Rubric The book should be in the shape of some aspect of your organism 20 points Cover Page that demonstrates your organism with a title 10 points Vocabulary page with important words defined (first or last page) 10 points Author page- about you (the author), tell the students a thing or two about yourself that you think Third Graders might want to know 10 points Usually found in the front or back of the book One page regarding the limiting factors associated with your organism 10 points One page regarding whether your organism is threatened, endangered or extinct and what that term means 10 points Threats to the species 10 points One page on the interdependence of the species 10 points Two pages of interesting information about your organism 10 points each Each page will have at least 2 sentences (probably more) with drawings done by you (the author) Each page will be creative, fun to read, informative and YES… colorful.
