Third Grade Animal Research Project Assigned: March 5, 2012 Due: March 12, 2012 Third graders have been assigned a research project. Students may research an animal of their choice. The report must include all of the elements listed in the Grading Rubric. The report must be hand written in the child’s handwriting and include a rough draft copy (with editing marks) and a final copy written on notebook paper. You may help students edit their papers, but please do not complete the report for them. Teachers recognize when a child has done the work. The final copy paper must be neat. Also, please do not wait until the last minute to complete the report. This is not something that can be done in one night. The following rubric will be used to grade the project: Name Turned in on time Points Possible 10 Name of the Animal 10 Animal’s habitat (Where does the animal live?) 10 Usual diet (What does the animal eat?) 10 Adaptations (What features does the animal have that help it to survive?) 10 Tell one interesting thing that you learned about your animal. 10 Used correct spelling and grammar (correct punctuation, nouns, verbs, etc.) Included a picture of the animal 10 Resources cited (What books and/or websites did you use to find your information) Original draft attached 10 Points Earned 10 10 Please cut, sign, and return the bottom portion of this paper listing the name of the animal to be researched. _____________________________________ Student Name ____________________________________ Name of Animal _____________________________________ Parent Signature Date
