Undergraduate Training Program for Chinese Language and Literature Overview: The teaching goals of this major are foreigners whose native language is not Chinese or overseas Chinese. Applicants must have completed high school. This aim of the program is to develop the Chinese language ability of students, to help the students understand Chinese culture and China's national conditions. The students will be able to use Chinese in cross-cultural communication and take general academic research. The graduates will be able to work for their own government, enterprise business, media and cultural education institutions, engage in the work related to the Chinese language and literature such as translators, journalists, teachers and civilian officials, etc. They can also engaged in news, business, business management and other aspects of the work in China, or they can use Chinese as the professional platform, to pursue other professional and academic degree in Chinese university. Major Requirement: After study the fundamental courses, professional courses, and the three summer practical courses, the students should be skilled in listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating. They must be able to speak Chinese fluently, write in the standard written Chinese. They must have a basic understanding the political, economic, legal, ethical and cultural aspects of the contemporary China, a certain social ability to live and to study in China. They also are able to work in cross-cultural environment all over the world. Standard duration 4 years. Chinese Zero-Beginners need to take Chinese Foundation course in total 384 (12x16x2) hours in the first year. For those who have a certain degree of Chinese, they can apply for exemption corresponding Chinese courses, according to the principle of waiver of taking course, but not the exam.
