Recital Ticket Sale Date
Tickets for this year’s recital go on sale Monday May 6th & Wednesday May 8th. In person or by
phone for CBDA families ONLY at Vaughan City Playhouse. The theatre will also accept orders sent
by email & fax however, please be advised that these orders will be processed AFTER the “In person
or by phone” request. Open to Public after Thursday May 9th in person, email, fax or by phone. Please
make sure you purchase the correct tickets (evening &/or matinee). Not all classes are in both
performances. If you are not sure which show your child performs in please ask at the studio office.

For quick reference, a copy of the DRAFT* program is included in this newsletter. Please review
BEFORE buying your tickets to make sure you order enough and order for the correct show. If your
child wishes to see ANY part of the show, they will also need a ticket.

COSTUME
Preparations for our annual recital May 25th are now underway. All costumes have been ordered.
Costumes will be given out to the dancers in class the week before picture day.
Tights- Costume accessories such as tights and shoes for each class performing will be listed in the
May newsletter.
If you have any problems with your costume please see the office. Deadline for costume cancellation
has past. If you have not already notified the office that your child will not be performing in the
Showcase, a costume will be ordered for your child and billed to your account.
ALL COSTUME DEPOSITS ARE NON REFUNDABLE, NON TRANSFERABLE.
Photo Day
Recreational Photo’s will be held May 22nd . Competitive dance photos, May 13th. Location: West
Photo in Richmond Hill. Payments for photo packages will be made directly to West Photo on picture
day. Photo order forms will be given out prior to date.
Hair & Makeup for Picture Day & Recital





Young recreational dancers may wear light make-up; blush & lipstick (optional). Older
students may wear eye liner, eye shadow, mascara, blush and lipstick.(also optional)
. Company members wear light company makeup including lashes for photo day. The usual
heavier make up application for recital.
Hair must be pulled back off face in a secure bun (no bangs). Please use gel and hairspray to
keep hair secure. All hair pieces must be secured with bobby pins.
Older recreational students in level 2 or higher - tap, jazz and/or musical theatre are required to
wear their hair in a high ponytail – no bangs. Hip hop students in level 1 & 2, hair is to be in a
high ponytail – no bangs. Hip hop students in level 3 & 4, hair should be worn down.
Company members – For Photos’ hair should be same as already assigned. For recital, hair to
be in top bun for entire show unless, specified by the teacher.
Performers Rehearsal
All students participating in the recital must attend both rehearsals May 21 & 24 Family and friends
are not permitted to watch rehearsal
Rehearsal #1- Tuesday May 21st 5-9:00 Location - C.B. Dance Academy. No costumes needed,
dancers must come to rehearsal ready with proper dance wear and shoes. If your child is in more then
one dance it is a good idea to bring some activities (game, puzzles coloring books etc). Also, a snack
is suggested. No peanut products please.
Rehearsal #2- Dress rehearsal – Friday May 24th Location-Vaughan City Playhouse. All recreational
dances are to wear their costumes to this rehearsal. Specific times will be posted in the May
newsletter. With regards to competitive routines, each dancer will be assigned to bring a specific
costume for lighting purposes. Costumes not needed for all other members.
Please arrive at rehearsal 30 min. early. Parents may wait for their children in the assigned waiting
area. Parents and friends are not permitted to watch rehearsal. If your child is in more then one dance
it is a good idea to bring some activities (game, puzzles coloring books etc). Also, water and a snack is
suggested. No pop or juice in change rooms with costumes. No peanut products please.
Recital Arrival time
Rehearsal and Recital arrival time will be posted in the May Newsletter.
Recital Pick up and Drop off
Safety is our priority so all parents must be patient when dropping off and picking up your child.
Please arrive to the theatre with your child’s hair and makeup already completed. You must sign your
child in with their first dance. Please let your child’s volunteer know if your child has any other dances
or quick changes.
Matinee Showcase Performance – Show length - 2hrs approx. Parents can pick up their children at the
end of the show. Parents will not be permitted to pick up students until show is over. Parents must
wait until all dancers are back with their volunteers before they are picked up.
Solo/duet showcase performance – show length 1 ½ hour.
Evening Showcase Performance – show length 2.5 hours approx. If dancer is performing only in act
1 dancer must be picked up by parent during intermission. Parents can pick up and drop off all
younger students during intermission.
Recital items not to be forgotten




Costume pieces
Hair accessories, tights, shoes, bobby pins, hairspray
Coloring books, games etc. for the dancer while they are waiting to perform
Snacks & water– no peanut products, or pop or juice in the change room.

No flash photography and video taping
Children cannot sit on their parents laps – no babes in arms
C.B. Dance Academy students wishing to enter the auditorium during the performance must
have a valid ticket and must not be in costume
All changing and rehearsal area must be tidy when leaving.
Backstage Area
We have a great group of backstage volunteers. We try our very best to keep the backstage area calm
and quiet as possible.





All classes will be held backstage in the assigned dressing room. Dancers must use the stage
door located at the back of the building when entering for rehearsal and recital.
Please no juice or pop in the change rooms. Water only please.
Please be sure you read the drop off and pick up rules.
Only Parent Volunteers with passes will be allowed in back stage area.
No parents will be allowed at the side of the stage to watch dances.
Recital Volunteers
In order for the rehearsal and recitals to run smoothly we ask C.B. parents to sign up for one of the
three performances. All female change rooms will be assigned a parent volunteers.






If you have a child in your group that is in more than one dance, you must change them into
their next dance.
It is important that you review any quick costume changes with the dancers that are in multiple
dances.
It is important that you stay with all students assigned to the room until they are picked up
All volunteers will be given a backstage pass the day of the show
Volunteers please arrive 20min. prior to the drop off time.
Please fill out the form below letting us know which show you would like to help out with and
drop it into Lindsay Aquins studio mail box. Margot Aquin is in charge of all the backstage
volunteers. If you have any questions or concerns please leave a message for her at the studio.

C.B. Summer Camp
Session 1- July 15-20 Session 2-July 29-aug. 2. Do not miss out on our great summer camps. Hip
hop, Musical theatre, Jazz as well as several outdoor activities- movies, bowling, swimming and fun
crafts. Flyers have been put in all mailboxes.
