Star 22/06/03 Roads to consider
APART from the design and physical structure of a house, a dweller should take into
consideration the surroundings of the property, in particular the road.
Firstly, the house should be on higher level than the road. The best would be about a metre
high so that the house looks majestic. A property on higher ground also prevents rainwater
from flowing into the house.
It is also important to identify the direction of the roads around the plot or house. In Vasthu, a
road sloping towards the north and east is favourable as it allows more positive energy to flow
into the housing scheme. Having hills that are south-west of the road is regarded as
auspicious as this sector should be "heavier" than the north-east.
Avoid a house located at a T-junction as it is less favourable. Dwellers in such a property will
have to work very hard and face many challenges to see average results. It also causes
health problems. The rational of Vasthu concerning a road that runs straight into the "face" of
a plot is that the negative energy that flows on the road will enter into the property directly.
Although there are some remedies that can be suggested, like the placement of certain tools,
there is no guarantee against the ill effects. It is best for a dweller to avoid such a property as
it brings more challenges than benefit.
The same effects can also be expected for plots having a back lane, walk path or side lane
that runs straight into the property,
A plot having roads on all four sides is auspicious and a dweller occupying such a property
will be blessed with health, wealth, happiness and peace of mind.
In such a case, it is recommended that the main gate be located on the eastern side of the
plot.
Roads on three sides - east, west and north - of a plot are also favourable and the main gate
should be located on the northern side. Having the north side unobstructed allows a free flow
of positive cosmic energy into the plot.
A plot of land with roads on the east, north and south is good and the main gate should be
built in the east. The dweller should avoid having the main gate on the south as it brings
trouble and it is inauspicious.
A plot having roads on the east, west and south is also regarded as favourable. The main
gate on such a plot should be located on the eastern side.
A plot with roads on two adjacent sides is more favourable compared with a plot with roads on
opposite sides.
In general, most houses have only one road on one side, as we can see in housing estates.
This road should face either north or east as these directions are more auspicious and bring
better health and prosperity to the dweller than the other directions.
Penang do
The Vasthu gathering on June 8 in Penang, which attracted over 500 people, provided many
people an opportunity to gain a better understanding of this ancient science and how it can be
used in modern times.
However, I noticed many people still based the direction of their front entrance on the
direction of the sunrise; this is inaccurate. Only a compass should be used to determine
direction.
Also, there were several readers who made minor changes, like placing water in the north-
east sector, and expected major results.
Vasthu is an art of placement of things in the house and it is vital a dweller ensures the
master bedroom, kitchen, prayer room and other major utilities are placed in the correct
quadrants to receive the maximum benefits.
Vasthu and Ayurveda
Ayurveda is an intricate system of healing that originated in India thousands of years ago and
it is a science of life and longevity.
It is interconnected with Vasthu Sastra and it is important for a dweller to observe both the
ancient sciences in totality for complete results.
This is because Vasthu is used as a source to find cures in Ayurveda for patients suffering
certain types of illness like insomnia, rheumatism and arthritis.
A person observing Ayurveda is recommended to follow Vasthu because Ayurveda
harmonises the body while Vasthu harmonises the house.
In Ayurveda, as in Vasthu Sastra, a person is viewed as a unique individual made up of five
primary elements that influence our five senses when they are present in the environment.
The food we eat and the weather are just two examples of the presence of these elements.
Ayurveda, in line with the theory of Vasthu, believes that food should be consumed where the
energy of the earth and sun can properly assimilate and metabolise it.
The best position for eating is sitting on the floor, which also is in line with the view that the
undercurrent water flow should stabilise our appetite and assimilation.
