Past Product Phase Ideas
When you choose a project, you want to choose something that
interests you or something that will develop a skill you already
have. You could learn something new, like sewing, drawing,
painting, or creating a model. Projects usually fall into a few
different categories: Models, Performances (dance, music),
Art (paintings, mosaics, drawings, stained glass windows, etc.),

Product Ideas
There are many different kinds of projects you can do, and this page is designed to give you an
idea of the major categories that most projects fall into each year. You don’t have to do a project
in one of these categories as you can branch out and try something entirely new!
MODELS:
You could make a model of a number of aspects of culture from your country.
The following is a list of the types of things you could build:
-famous buildings or memorials
-famous people (papier mache)
-villages
-interesting architecture
-animals
-vehicles (planes, trains, etc.)
-musical instruments
-furniture with tile mosaics or carvings
PERFORMANCES: If you are feeling particularly adventurous, or if you already possess some great
skills, you can do a performance for your project. If you do so, however, you will
also need to figure out how to get the training, how to record your hours, and
what else you need to add to your performance to get the required hours, such
as sewing your own costume for your performance. Just singing or dancing is
not enough to get you the hours that you need, so be prepared to add to your
project if you choose this. Be careful of dances or other performances that
require partners as it is very hard to schedule those performances. Talk to
your teacher if your performance requires that kind of coordination. Here
are some things that have been done in the past:
-learn to dance a traditional dance or a dance that originated in your country
-make and play an instrument from your country
-play music from a composer of your country
-memorize piano pieces from a composer of your country
-sing a famous or traditional song in the language of your country
ART:
This category is very broad as it covers a wide range of projects. The majority of
Projects will fall under this category. It includes paintings, collages, tile mosaics,
and even models. These tend to be the cheaper options for projects, as well.
Here are some ideas:
-reproduce a painting from a famous artist or a painting of a famous scene or
building of your country (use a canvas and acrylic paints—oils are too messy
and take much longer to dry)
-make a collage of something famous from your country from tile, magazine
cuttings, or even beans.
-make a tile mosaic of a design from your country (you can search for pictures)
and either frame it or put it on a piece of furniture, etc.
-make a stained glass window of a significant design or place in your country
SEWING:
Many students learn the new skill of sewing, crocheting, or knitting for their
project. One of the biggest things to consider when doing this kind of project is
finding a mentor to teach you the skills. These projects can also be expensive,
depending on the type of Product you are making. Please keep this in mind and
talk to your teacher about how to keep the cost down. Here are some ideas:
-make a costume of some festival costumes, dance costumes, or traditional
clothes
-sew a quilt with designs to represent different aspects of culture from your
country
-crochet or knit a blanket or piece of clothing in some significant shape or design
