Earth’s Interior Project
Step 1: Carefully read your rubric.
Step 2: Draw a rough draft of your diagram (Exploring Earth’s Interior). This is what you will use to guide
your model construction. Your diagram must be drawn as close to scale as possible.
Include layer names and colors as follows:
Crust = Brown
Asthenosphere = Dark Orange
Mantle = Orange
Outer Core = Dark Yellow
Inner Core = Yellow
Diagram Rough Draft due  Thur. 9/25…10 points
Step 3: Annotated Key – Describe each layer in detail. Include the layer’s name, composition, depth range,
and temperature range. Remember to write in complete sentences!

Step 4: Draw and type your diagram and annotated key in computer class. Please use Time New Roman or
Arial, 12 pt. Color your diagram appropriately before printing.
Step 5: Construct your model in art class. Paint the layers to match the colors on your diagram. The
Earth’s surface should be painted to represent oceans and continents. You will not be graded on accuracy
of continents. Remember, neatness is part of the grading criteria!
