The Next Chapter Charlotte launches first NextAid Chapter Beats Build Hope November 9th – Zen Asian Fusion Please join the launching of the Charlotte Chapter of NextAid in its first benefit event for children affected by AIDS in Africa. BEATS BUILD HOPE is bringing together an incredible group of dedicated members of the Charlotte community to share the music, spread the word, and raise funds for NextAid’s environmental children’s residence and community center project in a poverty and AIDS stricken town in South Africa. The benefit will take place on November 9th from 10:30-2am at Zen Asian Fusion, 1716 Kenilworth Ave. Charlotte, NC 28203. 704-358-9688. Suggested donation is $15 for the party and tickets for a delicious three course dinner are also available at $40. More information is posted on the NextAid website. www.nextaid.org/charlotte. Last May, a core group of friends brought 20+ dj’s together in San Francisco for their forth benefit event called For the Kids. Joel McPhee, of Wachovia Corp. stumbled upon this inspiring event while in the city for business. It inspired him to take this cause back to his home town and rally a group of conscious individuals from different backgrounds to come together and support NextAid. This event will feature long-time supporter Mr. V of Soul Channel Music, NYC and feat. Miss Patty, with local DJ Flemingo (aka “The East Coast Bad Boy”) and DJ Andy Kastanas. Hosting the event is Joel McPhee, Jenn Hurst of Carolina Pool Covers Inc., DT of DT Productions, Camille Langhorn and the rest of the NextAid Charlotte chapter. NextAid would also like to acknowledge Chi and Phong and the Zen Asian Fusion family along with Consolidated Press Inc, Signature Limousine Transportation Services, and the Westin Hotel. Proceeds will go towards NextAid’s pilot project: an ecological children’s center in South Africa that will serve as a safe home for 50 children orphaned by AIDS, a multi-purpose center for the greater community, and a model for best practices throughout Africa. Working with a renowned ecological architect and experienced natural builders, NextAid broke ground in July 2005 with an earth-bag building workshop, kicking off the construction of the Dennilton center for Youth with a Vision (YWAV). Today, seven buildings and supporting structures are completed on site including a performance space, and outdoor energy-efficient kitchen and seating area, two earth-bag offices, three composting toilets, a security guard house, and a straw bale children’s house.
