PEER ASSESSMENT PROCESS
The annual Peer Assessment Process is designed to support and assist faculty who seek to
become excellent teachers, outstanding scholars and good citizens of the academic
community. The Peer Assessment Process is also intended to guide faculty towards
tenure and promotion and help identify faculty who perform meritorious service for the
University.
The faculty in the School of Education set the standard for faculty expectations. The
faculty of the SOE have the responsibility to evaluate their peers and programs in
relationship to the goals and objectives of the university. The faculty also have the
responsibility to take a leadership role in resolving differences that may arise in
assessment.
I.
Selection of Committee Members
a. Each faculty member will have a two member Peer Assessment
Committee that shall be set up within two weeks after the first
departmental meeting in the fall of each academic year.
b. Committee members should be selected from the tenured and tenure track
faculty within each department, albeit, in some cases, it may be acceptable
to include faculty from related disciplines within the School of Education.
Ideally, at least one of the two Committee members should be tenured.
c. Tenure track faculty having two (2) years of experience at FSU may also
serve on the Committee.
d. Ideally, faculty members should not serve concurrently on each other's
committees. In other words, each Peer Assessment Committee should be
set up in such a manner that no two faculty member will review each other
at the same time. Moreover, committee members should rotate over time
so that the same reviewer will not review the same faculty member in
consecutive years.
e. The Peer Assessment Committee shall be established as follows:
i. The Department Chair shall select one member
ii. The faculty member under review shall select one member.
