BrailleNote Apex or MPower BT Lesson #13 Skills: * Navigate a web page * conduct a simple search using Google or other engine Introduction #13: Once the wireless or other Internet connection has been established, you may start using Key Web, the web browser on the BrailleNote. By default, the HumanWare web page is the home page. In this lesson, we'll use google to conduct a simple search. Work Time #13: This lesson assumes you are using a BrailleNote MPower or an Apex using the BT (braille style) keyboard. The lesson also assumes you are familiar with the parts and keys of the BrailleNote. It is also assumed that you have previously set up a wireless or other Internet connection. First, ensure wireless is on: * Space + o for options menu. * c for connectivity menu. * w for wireless * "Wireless ethernet on?" enter when yes is displayed. * r for reconnect using existing configuration. * Should get a connected message. * Return to Main Menu. 1. From Main Menu, open the web browser. Press letter i for Internet. 2. "Address?" is displayed along with the address of the home page. If google is not the home page, type in the url for google. www.google.com and then press enter. For the period, use dots 4 6. 3. "Connect using which configuration?" If your connection name is displayed, press enter. If not, space to your connection name and then press enter. 4. "Google" should be displayed. 5. You can move back and forward by input control. An input control is a web page element, such as an edit box for writing, that you can interact with. 6. Space + dots 1 3 will move to the previous input control. Space + dots 4 6 will move to the next input control. 7. Press space + 4 6 to hear "text input". This is the edit box where you can write what you want to search for. 8. Write a simple search term. 9. Press enter to begin the search. 10. A results page should be displayed. Use review commands to navigate and read the page. 11. To just hear page links, press space or backspace. To follow or open a link, press enter on the link. If you know the name of a link, use its initial letter to jump to it. 12. To read using the braille display, use the back or advance thumb-keys. 13. If using speech, read the previous, current, or nect sentence by using space key with dot 1, 4, or 1 and 4 to read the current line. . The commands are the same review commands that you use in a word processor document or book. 14. Other Browser Commands are available to you. Browser Commands: a. Enter + o to open a new url. b. Space + i will display the name of the current web page. c. Enter + f will go forward a page in the session history. d. Press read + b to go back a page in the session history. e. Refresh the current web page by using enter + r. f. Space + dots 1 3 4 6 will allow you to hear the current input control. 15. Practice the commands when conducting your google search. 16. Control + r to rename a folder or document from within a list. 34. Control + i to delete a folder or document from within a list. 35. Enter + backspace + s is the shortcut to open the Scientific Calculator. 36. Use the help key to get help. 37. Go forward reading with read + g. 38. Read + space to stop reading after space + g was used. 39. Shift + read + g to start automatic reading with the braille display. 40. While automatic reading, previous to slow the rate and next to increase the rate of braille display movement. 41. Previous + next will stop automatic reading. 42. Read key + f will find a string of text. 43. To find the next occurrence of the last searched for text, press read + n. 44. Open the block commands menu with control + b. 45. Press control + z to open the document you last had opened. 46. Read + control + s Will bring up the spelling checker menu. 47. Function key + o will open the options menu. 48. In the options menu, letter c to open the connectivity menu. Calculator Commands: 1. Clear a calculation with control + i. 2. Use control + m to delete the last key pressed. 3. For addition, use the plus key. 4. The dash is used for subtraction. 5. For multiplication, use star. 6. The slash key is used for division. 7. For the decimal point, use the period. 8. To here the last number or operator, press read + k. 9. Previous + next will change between displaying the result or the whole calculation. Web Browser Commands: 1.
