SIGMA PHI EPSILON FRATERNITY FLORIDA OMICRON CHAPTER FLORIDA GULF COAST UNIVERSITY P.O. BOX 960 ESTERO, FL 33929 Dear Incoming Florida Gulf Coast University Student: “In the arena of human life, the honors and rewards fall to those who show their good qualities in action.” — Aristotle Congratulations on your acceptance to Florida Gulf Coast University. Your acceptance suggests you share many of the same skills and abilities that have served the many thousands of graduates of FGCU preceding you. Receipt of this letter indicates you have been identified as a candidate for a prestigious award available to incoming students. As a current student at FGCU, I have found that successful students are ones who attach importance to learning and testing leadership skills, applying classroom teachings, and establishing strong friendships with peers who share similar values. My fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, believes that learning how to balance roles and activities, like those in college, is one of the most important life skills one can learn. We believe that recognizing students who exhibit balance and all-around excellence is one way to promote this important idea. Therefore, we are sponsoring the Balanced Man Scholarship in the amount of $1300 distributed amongst three or four potential scholars. Balanced Man Scholarships are being offered to incoming male freshman who have excelled in the development of a Sound Mind and a Sound Body during their high school careers. Our aim is to reward men who exemplify the qualities of a leader, scholar, athlete, and gentleman, as we believe they are essential to leading a balanced life. Our Florida Omicron chapter has about sixty active members. We have had numerous brothers hold positions in Student Government as well as many other prestigious leadership positions on campus and in the community. Proudly, one of our chapter’s founding fathers, Kevin Price, assisted in the formation of Greek Life here at FGCU just a few short years ago. Currently, we have several brothers whom are a part of the FGCU Honors Program, and our philanthropy work has raised over $10,000 while providing numerous hours of community service for The Boys and Girls Club of Lee County. As a chapter, we are proud of our accomplishments, however we are always looking to improve ourselves in everything we do. As the University grows larger and becomes more established, Fraternity and Sorority Life will continue to flourish at FGCU. Currently, over ten percent of the student population is a member of a fraternity or sorority—making it difficult to walk around campus without noticing our collective presence. To qualify, you must be a male first-year student admitted to Florida Gulf Coast University for the 2015-2016 school year. Applying for the Balanced Man Scholarship in no way obligates you to join Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity although we do encourage you to consider joining Greek Life during your college career. Should you have any questions concerning the Balanced Man Scholarship, please contact me at (561) 385-8982 or at djwarzala4747@eagle.fgcu.edu Enjoy your last few months of high school and have a great summer. I hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely, Dillon J. Warzala Balanced Man Scholarship Chairman Sigma Phi Epsilon, Florida Omicron Chapter
