ST ANDREW’S & DEERNESS COMMUNITY COUNCIL Maintenance of St Andrew’s Kirkyard and War Memorial for the three years as from 1st May 2014 to 31st October 2016 DESCRIPTION OF WORK, GENERAL CONDITIONS AND OBLIGATIONS 1 St Andrew’s Kirkyard and War Memorial extends to an area of approximately 0.923 acres and the grass is required to be cut and gathered and removed every seven to fourteen days in the months of May, June and July according to growing conditions and in the months of August, September and October grass should be cut, gathered and removed every fourteen to twenty one days according to growing conditions. 2 The grass area as described must be kept tidy and well maintained. Each grass cutting operation must include strimming where necessary. At all times the work will be executed to the satisfaction of St Andrew’s & Deerness Community Council. Any defective work must be remedied within five working days at the Contractors own expense. 3 The Contractor prior to grass mowing must remove all litter, stones and other debris from the site. Moveable obstructions such as glass globes should be carefully set-aside during grass cutting operations and reinstated on completion of the work. 4 Grass cuttings and debris must be removed from the site and disposed of in accordance with Council Regulations on Waste Management and Pollution Control. 5 The Contractor is required to be aged 18 years or over and will ensure that all current health and safety regulations are complied with. Contractors are reminded of their duty to carry out their work in such a way that persons not in their employment (including members of the general public) are not subjected to any health or safety risk. 6 Contractors should note that the Community Council will not provide machinery and fuel. 7 Contractors should note that Orkney Islands Council has arranged Public Liability insurance only. This insurance would cover any claim from a member of the public, which may result from grass cutting maintenance operations. Contractors should ensure that they arrange their own insurance to cover risks to themselves, staff, sub-contractors and their equipment. 8 The Contractor may contact Mr Peter Foubister, Stenswick, Tankerness, Telephone No. 01856 861393 or 07929097651, to whom any queries should be addressed in the first instance. 9 Payment will be issued twice yearly, following the receipt of an invoice for works completed from 1st May to 31st July in any given year and again for work completed from 1st August to 31st October in any given year. 10 If any of the conditions are not met then St Andrews and Deerness Community Council reserves the right to terminate this contract forthwith.
