ST ANDREW’S & DEERNESS COMMUNITY COUNCIL
Maintenance of St Andrew’s Kirkyard and War Memorial
for the three years as from 1st May 2014 to 31st October 2016
DESCRIPTION OF WORK, GENERAL CONDITIONS AND OBLIGATIONS
1
St Andrew’s Kirkyard and War Memorial extends to an area of approximately
0.923 acres and the grass is required to be cut and gathered and removed every
seven to fourteen days in the months of May, June and July according to
growing conditions and in the months of August, September and October grass
should be cut, gathered and removed every fourteen to twenty one days
according to growing conditions.
2
The grass area as described must be kept tidy and well maintained. Each grass
cutting operation must include strimming where necessary. At all times the work
will be executed to the satisfaction of St Andrew’s & Deerness Community
Council. Any defective work must be remedied within five working days at the
Contractors own expense.
3
The Contractor prior to grass mowing must remove all litter, stones and other
debris from the site. Moveable obstructions such as glass globes should be
carefully set-aside during grass cutting operations and reinstated on completion
of the work.
4
Grass cuttings and debris must be removed from the site and disposed of in
accordance with Council Regulations on Waste Management and Pollution
Control.
5
The Contractor is required to be aged 18 years or over and will ensure that all
current health and safety regulations are complied with. Contractors are
reminded of their duty to carry out their work in such a way that persons not in
their employment (including members of the general public) are not subjected to
any health or safety risk.

Contractors should note that the Community Council will not provide machinery
and fuel.

Contractors should note that Orkney Islands Council has arranged Public
Liability insurance only. This insurance would cover any claim from a member
of the public, which may result from grass cutting maintenance operations.
Contractors should ensure that they arrange their own insurance to cover risks to
themselves, staff, sub-contractors and their equipment.
8
The Contractor may contact Mr Peter Foubister, Stenswick, Tankerness,

completed from 1st May to 31st July in any given year and again for work
completed from 1st August to 31st October in any given year.

Council reserves the right to terminate this contract forthwith.
