I understand that Roger, our lead groundskeeper, spoke to you about this and he thought you were fine with the location behind Roberts. The general policy is that we only allow fires on campus in the dining services grills, but not in bonfires or pit fires. Security is the office that approves those locations because they have to be a certain distance from the building and have a hose or fire extinguishers near by, as well as people trained to use it. There is also heavy tree cover in the area near Johnson that poses potential fire hazards, so the options will be more limited. Since the grills and these events cans leave a burn spot in the grass, or an excessively worn area, we do prefer that groups use the area behind Roberts to keep our campus looking as good as possible. If Security approves another area, we will need assistance from the group having the event to restore the area the next day. Hope this answers your question. Some CAs are doing a fire-pit S'mores event next Thursday for the entire Row and for the prospective students we have coming for Experience Colby. I spoke with a PPD worker this morning who mentioned that they would like the event behind Bob's because of the new grass that was planted down by Go-Ho. I understand the need for students to not be walking on the newly planted grass. Is there a chance that we could have the event higher up on the row near Johnson so that they do not disturb the grass but are still able to be on the Row. It will be hard to get a high participation rate behind Bob's since students wont be able to see it.
