EUROLIGHT: STABILITY MEETS LIGHTNESS
EGGER presents its latest lightweight building products and the
corresponding new EUROLIGHT user brochure.
Lightweight materials for furniture construction long since ceased to be a
niche topic. In the meantime they have established themselves as a resourcefriendly alternative to conventional materials, leading to a global increase in
demand. EGGER is considered the leader in this field with its EUROLIGHT
lightweight building boards. At the LIGNA 2013 trade fair in Hanover, the
Tyrolean wood-based material manufacturer is presenting its lightweight
building product spectrum as part of a special exhibition.
Naturally, everything in the special exhibition area in hall 17 revolves around the
theme of lightweight building. Thanks to the pioneering spirit and user orientation of
the Tyrolean wood-based material manufacturer in its dedication to lightweight
furniture construction products, EGGER with its wood-based materials as part of the
“lightweight.network” stands out nevertheless.
LIGHTWEIGHT, STURDY AND EASY ON RESOURCES
Of course the EUROLIGHT lightweight building boards take centre stage in the
EGGER lightweight building exhibition. They have a sandwich structure consisting
of thin chipboard surface layers with a kraft paper honeycomb core in the centre.
Available in thicknesses up to 100 mm (3.94”), they are up to 60 % lighter than
conventional boards – which has a positive impact on logistics, packaging and
shipping as well.
In spite of their low weight, stability is uncompromised. Thanks to their high loading
capacity, EUROLIGHT lightweight building boards are suitable for a wide variety of
applications – from shelving units with large spans to seating furniture and benches.
The proven honeycomb core structure gives the material the required strength.
As explained by Product Manager Andrea Ehrnsperger, the product is particularly
environmentally friendly as well: “We are actively approaching the important task of
consciously saving resources with EUROLIGHT. With a reduced wood volume and
scrap wood recycling, we nevertheless achieve a perfect appearance, natural feel
and high loading capacity for the material. We therefore help conserve resources,
protect the environment and preserve all of our health over the long term.” The
numbers speak for themselves: instead of 25 m 2 (269 square feet) of chipboard with
a thickness of 38 mm (1.50”), a cubic metre of wood makes up to 160 m2 (1,722
square feet) of EUROLIGHT.
PROVEN EGGER DECOR AND MATERIAL COMBINATIONS
EUROLIGHT products are available raw, with priming film for custom coating or with
an applied decor. With the latter option, melamine-faced surface layers are a perfect

match for EGGER decor and texture combinations. They come in matching decors
with EGGER EURODEKOR chipboard or MDF boards, laminates and edging,
offering maximum design flexibility and cost-effectiveness. With the new edition of
ZOOM 2012, EGGER fully revised its stock programme for EUROLIGHT lightweight
building boards, increasing it to 24 decors. Matching EGGER ABS edging is
available as well, optimised for the ZOOM decors in regards to colour, grain, surface
texture and gloss level.
NEW BROCHURE FOR STRAIGHTFORWARD APPLICATION
For this year’s LIGNA trade fair, EGGER has released a new EUROLIGHT brochure
for the application and processing of the lightweight building boards. “The 56-page
information brochure answers all the questions related to EUROLIGHT, including
cut-to-size, edging, the use of hardware or the installation of glued dowels and
frames,” explains Hubert Höglauer, Head of Marketing EGGER Group. Application
examples for sheathing, combinations of EUROLIGHT and EURODEKOR, sliding,
folding and interior doors as well as free-floating shelves round out the brochure.
Users are also provided with suggestions for innovative application possibilities.
EUROLIGHT boards are particularly well suited for the integration of electronic
components. Due to the sandwich construction, all of the components are effectively
concealed in the honeycomb core: lighting, outlets, charging stations, speakers and
even docking stations.
VERSATILE AND UNIVERSAL IN APPLICATION
With correct processing, EUROLIGHT boards can be used for all interior
applications. From cabinets and shelves, tables, bed frames and sliding doors to
vanities and bathroom furniture, desks and partition walls in offices to display cases
and counters in shop fitting, they are suitable for a wide variety of applications.
EGGER even offers EUROLIGHT worktops in its post-forming programme.
The practical user brochure with information on all aspects of the product is
available for download on the internet under www.egger.com.

GROWING WITH THE WOOD CONSTRUCTION TREND
EGGER is meeting the pan-European wood construction trend with its
range of building products being presented at the LIGNA trade fair.
EGGER has steadily expanded its capacities and expertise in the field of
structural wood-based materials. From its own sawmill in Brilon (DE) and the
OSB plants in Wismar (DE) and Radauti (RO), EGGER supplies European and
export markets with the structural wood-based materials OSB, DHF and sawn
timber.
In Western and Central Europe in particular, the trend towards sustainable,
ecological construction is a key driving force behind the increased use of woodbased material products. “Economical, energy-efficient, sustainable construction
that conserves resources is important to builders and planners. We implement
sustainability in practice. It constitutes the strategic focal point of our growth,” says
Carsten Ritterbach, Director Marketing & PM EGGER Building Products, explaining
the growth strategy of the wood-based material manufacturer in the wood
construction segment.
“We continued to expand our expertise in the field of building with wood over the
course of the last two years,” says Andreas Reiterer, Director Sales & Marketing
EGGER Building Products. “This puts us in a position to strengthen our strategic
direction for wood construction in Europe and select export markets.” Around
350,000 m3 (12,360,000 cubic feet) of OSB were distributed in more than 40
markets around the world in 2011. EPDs are available for all EGGER products,
transparently presenting the environmental contribution of materials and process
steps for customers, architects and planners. The EPDs are used for the building
certification process.
FULL PRODUCT RANGE FOR WOOD CONSTRUCTION
With its building products, EGGER is establishing its strategic direction for wood
construction in Europe and select export markets. The proportion of wood
construction is expected to continue rising as building activity increases. As a
manufacturer of building products and supplier of system solutions, EGGER offers
key components for open and closed wood construction systems with the OSB,
technical MDF and solid wood product segments. They are marketed through
specialist distributors and to industrial customers. For the DACH sales region –
which includes Germany, Austria and Switzerland – the product segments from
Wismar and Brilon are the main components. Key products include the
EUROSTRAND OSB 4 TOP wood construction board with general building authority
approval Z-9.1-566, which sets itself apart with high static values, and the
EUROSTRAND OSB 3 E0 multi-purpose board according to EN 300, both of which
feature formaldehyde-free gluing. The product range also includes vapour
permeable EGGER DHF and EGGER solid wood. The selection of solid wood from

the sawmill in Brilon primarily consists of solid structural wood and S10 slats sorted
by strength, which are marketed to EGGER distribution partners as part of the
continuously growing distributor product range.
FUTURE MARKET EASTERN EUROPE
EUROSTRAND OSB/3 E1 according to EN 300 is mainly supplied to Eastern
European markets from the plant in Radauti, Romania. A volume of approximately
300,000 m³ (10,594,000 cubic feet) was marketed in the first year of production
(2012). The maximum OSB production capacity of 500,000 m³ (17,657,000 cubic
feet) is slated to be reached by 2014. “In general we are seeing favourable growth in
the demand for OSB boards in the Eastern European market, where it is being used
for roof construction, wall sheathing and packaging. Wood construction in these
countries is not yet as advanced as in Central Europe at this time. This is why we
count on good marketing and applications engineering in order to develop these
markets,” explains Carsten Ritterbach, Director Marketing & PM EGGER Building
Products.
SERVICE FOR WOOD CONSTRUCTION PLANNERS
A wide range of services rounds out the EGGER offering in the DACH region as well
as Eastern Europe. This includes the wood construction planning manual and the
EGGER Innovative seminars for fabricators as well as the application technology
hotline and extensive information available on the internet. Over the last few years,
EGGER has developed numerous systems – in particular regarding statics, fire and
sound protection requirements – and had them tested. For planners in wood
construction, an overview of tested and classified wood construction components
has been compiled and published under www.egger.com.

A HEAVYWEIGHT AT THE LIGHTWEIGHT TRADE FAIR –
THE EGGER TRUCK AT LIGNA
The multiple award-winning showroom on four wheels serves as the
exhibition stand at the LIGNA trade fair, making its second stop in
Germany.
Under the motto “Discover the World of EGGER”, the Tyrolean wood-based
material manufacturer has been on tour to its customers all over Europe for
more than two years. Honoured with the iF communication design award and
the RedDot Design Award, the EGGER Truck allows trade fair visitors to
explore the entire product range in Hanover.
Arriving at the LIGNA trade fair with its lightweight building theme in a heavy truck is
no contradiction for EGGER. After all, the interior of the EGGER Truck presents the
entire world of furniture construction and interior design, wood construction and
flooring using actual samples with the help of virtual stations.
Discovery takes centre stage in the concept. Even when entering through a forest
with birdsong, the EGGER philosophy is communicated to the customer with all the
senses. Among other things, the truck presents the environmental cycle in digital
form. Animated and live-action video sequences guide visitors from sustainable
forestry to the production of wood-based materials to the use of waste wood in
biomass power plants.
The EGGER House is another station in the showroom on wheels. This installation
allows customers to navigate through a virtual house by controlling an interactive
glass table. Information on all of the installed EGGER products is available along
the way and the composition of structural and furniture details can be examined.
AWARD-WINNING AND ACTIVELY USED
A central material library for the entire EGGER product range is also offered along
with the digital solutions. Other sources of information in the EGGER Truck include
the Virtual Design Studio (VDS) HD and the visualisation system VDS LIVE to
present the EGGER flooring decors. It was precisely this material library in the
EGGER Trucks that earned the RedDot Design Award 2011 in the POS category as
well as the iF communication design award 2012 in gold in the category “Corporate
Architecture – Installations in public spaces”.
After its stint as the exhibition stand at the LIGNA trade fair, the EGGER Truck will
continue its tour through Eastern Europe as an impressive customer information
centre directly on site. “With the EGGER Truck, we are offering our customers a
new form of partner marketing and we are pleased it is being used so intensively,”
explains Hubert Höglauer, Head of Marketing EGGER Group.
