EGGER products are found in many areas of private and public life. Following the guiding principle “Living and Working with Wood”, the Tyrolean wood-based material manufacturer offers a comprehensive product range of coreboards made of woodbased materials (chipboards, OSB boards and MDF boards) under the EGGER umbrella brand. Most of the base materials are upgraded with trend-conforming decors and surfaces. But EGGER also dedicates itself to comprehensive topics and promotes integrated solutions for building and living. THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX Among other things, EGGER pursues the continuous further development of its product portfolio in order to offer comprehensive solutions for comfortable living to its customers. One of the focal points is the regular development of new, trendconforming decors and surfaces. But EGGER also dedicates itself to entirely different topics. PROACOUSTIC: SOUND-ABSORBING EGGER PRODUCTS One of these is the field of acoustically effective wood-based materials. Soundabsorbing panels featuring barely perceptible small holes in the board surface ensure a pleasant room atmosphere. Under the title “ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE – Scores for Room Acoustics”, EGGER is also participating in the MakroArchitektur Forum held during the BAU 2011. Dr. Christian Nocke from the Oldenburg acoustics office and Michael Beckmann, Product Manager at EGGER, are giving a presentation on room acoustics solutions with conceptual wood-based materials on 20th January 2010 from 12 noon to 1:00 pm. In addition Michael-Bernd Wehmeyer, Head of Sales Edging, will give a presentation entitled “Point of Sale – From the Digital Design to the Actual Product” on 21st October 2010 from 12 noon to 1:00 pm as part of the MakroArchitektur Forum on the topic “EVERYTHING NEW – Visionary Shop Fitting”. 04 PRELIMINARY DISCUSSIONS TO THE BAU MUNICH, OCTOBER 2010 EFFECTIVE FIRE PROTECTION WITH WOOD-BASED MATERIALS With its Flammex product spectrum, EGGER offers a range of low flammability products that provide additional protection in case of a fire. Classified according to the European EN 13501-1 standard and the strictest fire protection class for organic products, EUROCLASS B-s2,d0, the products have a retardant effect on the ignition time. In combination with the comprehensive selection of matching decors and colours in the ZOOM collection, EGGER combines both aesthetic and functional aspects to show that effective fire protection with wood-based materials is no contradiction. LIVING AND WORKING WITH WOOD “Living and Working with Wood” as the motto for the BAU 2011 As a full-range supplier, EGGER dedicates itself to comprehensive topics such as acoustics, fire protection or building with wood EGGER is participating in the MakroArchitektur Forum during the BAU 2011 with a presentation by Dr. Christian Nocke and Michael Beckmann on the topic of “ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE – Scores for Room Acoustics” 05 PRELIMINARY DISCUSSIONS TO THE BAU MUNICH, OCTOBER 2010 EGGER IS FOCUSING ON NEW MARKETS After acquiring a majority interest in the Turkish edging manufacturer ROMA, EGGER is expanding its capacities for existing and new markets in Southern and Eastern Europe. Turkey is becoming a strategically important market for EGGER. With the ROMA acquisition, the volume of business in Turkey and the surrounding regions is to be increased significantly. EGGER also expects positive effects from the investment in an OSB line in Romania. “ROMA is a dual expansion for EGGER. With this acquisition, we have boosted our presence in the future market of Turkey and expanded our product range to include edging,” explains Reinhard Hätti, Sales & Marketing Director Central and Eastern Europe at EGGER. Turkey has increasingly gained the attention of the wood-based material manufacturer over the last few years. The high growth rates, young population and tremendous demand for living space make the country a promising market for the Austrian family company. The ROMA plant in Gebze is the 16th EGGER location in Europe. Founded in 1996, ROMA is currently generating revenues of around EUR 60 million with 485 employees. The capacity is 160 million running metres (525 million running feet) and products are delivered to more than 50 countries around the world. With its melamine edging, PVC/ABS security edging and accent edging, ROMA is among the leading manufacturers in the world. “With ROMA, we are strengthening our position as a full-range supplier”, Reinhard Hätti says. “We are also able to take advantage of the existing good contacts within our industry established by the management of ROMA in order to increasingly develop the markets of Turkey, the Caucasus region, the CIS states and the Middle East.” GROWING TOGETHER This is why EGGER has also expanded its sales team for the region. The sales office is located in the economic centre of Istanbul. Another step will be the establishment of a EURODEKOR warehouse, which will significantly improve product availability and enhance quality of service. EGGER is also planning to develop and expand its distribution structure in the future. NEW OSB LINE IN RADAUTI In Eastern Europe, the plant in Radauti, Romania is currently developing into a fully integrated location. A building permit for the construction of a completely new OSB line was recently submitted. The capacity upon commissioning will be 300,000 m³ (10,594,000 cubic feet) and around 100 new jobs will be created. “We expect to commence construction before the end of 2010,” Hätti says. OSB production in 06 PRELIMINARY DISCUSSIONS TO THE BAU MUNICH, OCTOBER 2010 Romania is mainly being established to serve the markets in Central, Eastern and Southern Europe. EGGER already announced an investment in OSB production in the middle of the year. Ultimately the decision in favour of Radauti was made based on the good infrastructure and excellent wood supply. Since EGGER wants to supply itself with energy and resin to the greatest possible extent, a dedicated resin plant is also being built in Radauti right now. The new administrative building in Radauti is virtually complete. This reference project using modular wood construction was built almost exclusively out of EGGER products. In addition to OSB 4 TOP, DFF, MDF, EURODEKOR, EUROLIGHT, compact laminate and laminates, the edging and laminate flooring were also produced within the group. FACT BOX GROWTH STRATEGY ROMA acquisition strengthens position as a full-range supplier With the plant in Turkey, surrounding regions are coming into focus Investment in the OSB line in Radauti (RO) to commence before the end of this year 07 PRELIMINARY DISCUSSIONS TO THE BAU MUNICH, OCTOBER 2010 EGGER REFINES ITS ACOUSTICS SOLUTIONS 308,642 holes per square meter and yet the perforations are imperceptible: EGGER expands its acoustics programme with “ProAcoustic Finest”. Many sound-reflecting materials are used in modern architecture, creating demand for sound-absorbent solutions in the field of interior design. EGGER has been supplying its acoustic products made of wood-based materials since 2005, and has continuously pursued the further development of its solutions since then. The latest highlight is the finest perforation, which EGGER is now offering on a laminate basis for the first time. “With our finest perforation which is available effective immediately, we are a genuine pioneer since this truly imperceptible acoustics solution was previously only possible on a veneer basis,” explains Michael Beckmann, Product Manager at EGGER in Germany. With the 1.8/1.8/0.5 mm (0.07/0.07/0.02”) finest perforation, fabricators have access to the comprehensive laminate programme of the EGGER ZOOM collection. The wood-based material manufacturer EGGER is offering the new “ProAcoustic Finest” product on a made-to-order basis. Just like the other acoustics solutions, the finest perforation can be applied with decor on one or both sides. In addition to applications as furniture components, the new product is used as wall cladding and in partition walls. “We can also easily implement sound-absorbing ceilings, ceiling systems or subsequently installed fixtures with the new finest perforation,” Beckmann explains. PROACOUSTIC STANDARD IMPROVED ONCE AGAIN With the introduction of the new ProAcoustic Finest perforation, EGGER is selling the previously offered standard 3.0/3.0/1.0 mm (0.12/0.12/0.04”) microperforation under the name “ProAcoustic Classic” starting in January 2011. It continues to be available in 10 different in-stock decors, while individual solutions are produced on an order-specific basis. “We are not only changing the name, but also optimising the design,” says Michael Beckmann from EGGER. With a further development in production, EGGER not only wants to realise economic advantages but also simplify the application of the product for fabricators. The reverse side is now going to feature predefined areas without perforations, which will significantly simplify attaching the boards in the main application “wall cladding”. Current measurements show that EGGER will once again improve the sound absorption values after the production change. The SAA value is going up from 0.74 to 0.77. 08 PRELIMINARY DISCUSSIONS TO THE BAU MUNICH, OCTOBER 2010 IMPROVING THE ACOUSTIC ROOM SITUATION “EGGER was the first wood-based material manufacturer to offer acoustic elements with a decor match. In cooperation with Akustik+, we have pursued the further development of this highly complex topic. With our product solutions, we want to offer our customers more individual design versions for even more economical applications in the contract business,” Michael Beckmann explains. There are several approaches to solve acoustic room problems. In many cases, improving an existing room situation is called for. Possible solutions in such cases include ceiling panels or custom pre-fabricated system components that can be easily installed after the fact. But individual furniture components made of sound-absorbent acoustic elements may also constitute a straightforward and effective solution to improve the room situation. Of course, the ideal approach is to take acoustics into account during room planning from the outset. “This allows wall cladding, partition walls and ceiling systems to be integrated into the overall concept, creating homogenous overall solutions,” Beckmann says. FACT BOX PROACOUSTIC INNOVATIONS With ProAcoustic Finest, EGGER ProAcoustic boards are available in is offering the first finest perforation the decor and material combinations on a laminate basis of the EGGER ZOOM collection 1.8/1.8/0.5 mm (0.07/0.07/0.02”) Areas of application: finest perforation permits an - Subsequent installation, e.g. as imperceptible 308,642 holes per ceiling panels square meter - Wall cladding ProAcoustic Classic is replacing the - Fixed ceiling systems standard board effective January 2011 - Furniture components and has been optimised for effectiveness and ease of application 09 PRELIMINARY DISCUSSIONS TO THE BAU MUNICH, OCTOBER 2010 ENHANCED FIRE PROTECTION WITH EGGER PRODUCTS Low flammability EGGER products reduce the risk of a full-scale fire and delay the spread of flames. Our products meet the EU construction product guidelines according to Euroclass. Since fires can start in many different ways, it is all the more important to use products that fulfil a protective function in an emergency by not burning independently and significantly reducing the risk of a full-scale fire. EGGER offers the right fire protection solutions, both for decorative and for constructive areas of application. Low flammability EGGER products, which feature convincing functionality combined with appealing designs, make a key contribution towards fire protection. In addition to raw chipboard, EGGER also offers melamine faced boards with matching decors and colours in the fire classification Euroclass B. Thanks to their special characteristics, these EGGER Flammex products significantly reduce the risk of a full-scale fire and delay the spread of flames as well as the flashover point. For wood construction, EGGER offers numerous components with fire protection classifications for the application of EUROSTRAND OSB, EGGER DHF and DFF in the wood construction planning manual, including a newly developed, innovative F90-B wood-beam ceiling for multi-storey wood construction. EGGER MATERIALS OFFER VALUABLE TIME RESERVES With its Flammex product spectrum, EGGER is offering a range of low flammability products that provide additional protection in case of a fire, adapted to the European classification system on reaction to fire. Classified according to the European EN 13501-1 standard and the strictest fire protection class for organic products, Euroclass B, the products have a retardant effect on the ignition time, the so-called flashover point, and can offer valuable time reserves in case of an emergency. Flammex wood-based materials also slow down the spread of flames while featuring low heat release and smoke development. COMPREHENSIVE PRODUCT RANGE WITH DECOR MATCH EGGER offers many of its products in low flammability versions according to Euroclass B. EUROSPAN raw chipboard, melamine faced EURODEKOR boards and compact laminate are all available in Flammex versions. In addition to the essential protective function in case of fire, these products also guarantee design versatility thanks to decors and colours that match other EGGER products in the ZOOM collection. The focus is not only on functional but also on aesthetic aspects that reflect the current trend and Zeitgeist. Architects, tradespeople and also the furniture industry can meet these requirements with low flammability EGGER products. 10 PRELIMINARY DISCUSSIONS TO THE BAU MUNICH, OCTOBER 2010 WOOD CONSTRUCTION CONTRADICTION AND FIRE PROTECTION ARE NO Proof of adequate fire protection also plays an important role in the decision of the builder in favour of erecting a wood construction building. This is why EGGER has presented the reaction to fire classification of its constructive wood-based materials such as EUROSTRAND OSB, EGGER DHF, EUROSPAN wood chipboard and EGGER DFF according to EN 13501-1 in detail in its wood construction planning manual. In the construction catalogue, the folder contains numerous classified wall, ceiling and roof structures with component classifications in terms of fire protection based on DIN 4102-4, classification reports pursuant to EN 13501-2 and / or general building authority test reports. After successful tests and subsequent classification, fire-retardant wall structures with double-T beams as a wall style as well as an innovative F90-B wood-beam ceiling with enhanced sound protection were recently added. EGGER is therefore making a contribution to structural fire protection in energy-efficient and sustainable construction, and especially to the simplified application of EGGER wood and wood-based materials. EMPHASIS ON THE ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY The sustainable use of wood-based materials is a top priority for EGGER. This is why the family company is counting on integrated plants where wood is first used in production. Wood residues and recycled wood that cannot be used in production are utilised as thermal fuel in the company’s own biomass power plants to generate energy for production. The use of wood as a renewable raw material is optimised throughout its life cycle and climate protection is assured. Environmental product declarations have been prepared for all EGGER base products, confirming a very good environmental performance assessment by independent experts. EGGER therefore combines optimum fire protection with environmental compatibility. 11 PRELIMINARY DISCUSSIONS TO THE BAU MUNICH, OCTOBER 2010 ENHANCED FIRE PROTECTION WITH EGGER PRODUCTS EGGER is dedicating itself to the topic of fire protection in particular Comprehensive Flammex product spectrum according to Euroclass B: EUROSPAN boards, EURODEKOR boards and compact laminate Optimum reaction to fire combined with versatile design possibilities thanks to matching decors and colours The reaction to fire of constructive EGGER products is detailed in the wood construction planning manual EGGER offers wood construction components classified according to applicable standards such as EN 13501-2 in regards to their reaction to fire Products made of renewable raw materials feature a good environmental performance assessment; EGGER has obtained confirmation in environmental product declarations 12 PRELIMINARY DISCUSSIONS TO THE BAU MUNICH, OCTOBER 2010 EMOTION 2011 – NEW EDITION OF THE SUCCESSFUL DISTRIBUTOR COLLECTION 25 entirely new decors, new trends, new surface textures and a new product category. With Emotion 2011, EGGER is focusing the spotlight on the expertise of the fabricator. EGGER supports sales consultations with newly developed tools such as an innovative collection case, which contains all decors as original samples for the first time. A COLLECTION FILLED WITH INNOVATIONS The new Emotion collection consists of 58 decors in total, with almost half of them representing new developments. Oak in different versions represents the largest proportion, for example the intensive Garrison Oak Tobacco or the modern Northland Oak Light. Grey hues are considered the second-most important trend. Montana Pine Silver appears rustic and striking while Siberian Larch Grey presents a modern look with very straight lines and few knots. The new Natural Pore synchronous pore surface for country-home floorboards and 3-strip flooring represents a major innovation, imparting the impression and appearance of a genuine wood floor more than ever before. EGGER recognised the importance of the interplay between decors and surfaces early on, and is always working on further developments in this field. With Emotion 2011, EGGER is offering laminate flooring with a thickness of 11 mm (0.43") in class of application 33 for the first time. The product range mainly consists of rustic country-home floorboards intended to accentuate the durable, solid nature of the product. This is an important sales argument, especially for commercial and high-end residential applications. The impression is further enhanced by the newly developed Vintage surface, which is also highly slip-resistant and therefore classified as R10 pursuant to the applicable standard. The decors with perceptible rough-cut crosswise grooves appear authentic, rough, natural and extremely robust. ORIGINAL SAMPLES OF ALL DECORS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE NEW COLLECTION CASE In addition to a collection brochure in an attractive design, a newly developed collection case actively supports the salesperson during consultations. The structure of this sales tool was designed so that all required information is available during the consultation. On this basis, end customers are able to make a well-informed buying decision very early in the process. 13 PRELIMINARY DISCUSSIONS TO THE BAU MUNICH, OCTOBER 2010 Original decor samples are the major new feature of the collection case. An original sample of every product – 58 of them in total – has been integrated while keeping the dimensions comparatively compact and the weight low. The value of an original sample must not be underestimated, since customers want to touch and feel their new flooring before they place an order with the fabricator. In many sales consultations, only the original decor sample offers the required certainty to seal the deal. In addition to the original samples, the Emotion collection case also contains detailed product information. All decors are shown in actual room situations, which are presented in large illustrations on the individual decor cards. Details and perspectives are also included in order to impart a comprehensive impression of the new laminate flooring. VISUALISATION TOOL WITH UPLOAD FUNCTION FOR OWN IMAGES In addition to the consultation at the customer’s home with the inspirational brochure and collection case, EGGER also offers another service. The well-known Flooring Studio internet application has been enhanced and is now called the Virtual Design Studio online (VDS online). In addition to the comprehensive room library with proposed living situations, users are now able to upload and process their own room photographs for the first time. This means customers will be able to see their own room with the new laminate flooring even before it is installed. Interior decorators and flooring installers take photos of the customer’s rooms during the consultation. VDS allows the choice of Emotion laminate flooring to be integrated into the photos. This allows the fabricator to present the customer with virtual results even before implementation. EMOTION 2011 The new Emotion collection consists of 58 decors in total, with 25 of them representing new developments New Natural Pore synchronous pore surface for country-home floorboards and 3-strip flooring Laminate flooring with a thickness of 11 mm (0.43") in class of application 33 for the first time Newly developed collection case with original samples to support fabricators in sales consultations The well-known Flooring Studio internet application has been enhanced and is now called the Virtual Design Studio online (VDS online). 14 PRELIMINARY DISCUSSIONS TO THE BAU MUNICH, OCTOBER 2010 EGGER DELIVERS THE RIGHT PRODUCTS FOR DEMANDING WOOD CONSTRUCTION APPLICATIONS New reference projects implemented by EGGER. with constructive wood-based materials Time and time again, the long-term partnership with Griffner Haus results in ecologically valuable wood construction projects with EGGER products. EGGER wood-based materials were also used in the VELUX Sunlighthouse and by Acutronic in Switzerland. Builders appreciate the advantages of wood in terms of aesthetics, well-being and convenience. EGGER bundles all its wood construction activities under the term EGGER wood construction. GRIFFNER HAUS COUNTS ON EGGER WOOD CONSTRUCTION PRODUCTS Griffner Haus, the Austrian wood construction specialist for ecological building, has been using constructive EGGER products for more than ten years. The new Juwi branch in the Waldpolenz energy park near Leipzig was constructed in August 2010. 8,000 m² (86,111 square feet) of EUROSTRAND OSB 4 TOP boards and 8,000 m² (86,111 square feet) of EGGER DHF boards were used as reinforcing elements on the exterior walls and plaster façade. With a footprint of 15 x 30 metres (49’ x 98’), the office building has space for 80 employees. The building was constructed in the so-called split-level concept, which refers to the implementation of offset levels to minimise staircases and corridors. The appearance is defined by solar modules while natural wood forms the basis for the walls. Presented at the beginning of October 2010, the new Square model house by Griffner is a modern, two-storey wood construction single-family detached house. The house mainly scores points as a modern equivalent to the classic flat roof structure, wherein the interplay of materials and colours in the façade, roofing tiles and anodised wood-aluminium windows creates a special appearance. Approximately 300 m² (3,229 square feet) of EGGER EUROSTRAND OSB 4 TOP and 200 m² (2,153 square feet) of EGGER DHF boards are used for the large-panel structure in wood mullion construction. AUSTRIA’S FIRST CO2 NEUTRAL SINGLE-FAMILY DETACHED HOUSE The first CO2 neutral single-family detached house, the so-called VELUX Sunlighthouse, was presented in Pressbaum near Vienna at the end of September 2010. As one of six houses in different climate zones, the Austrian Sunlighthouse also features a strikingly efficient energy concept. In only 30 years, it will have generated enough clean energy (photovoltaic and solar-thermal) to offset the CO2 emissions caused by its construction and operation up to that time. EGGER is 15 PRELIMINARY DISCUSSIONS TO THE BAU MUNICH, OCTOBER 2010 contributing a total of 900 m² (9,688 square feet) of EUROSTRAND OSB 4 TOP boards to this wood construction single-family detached house with 190 m² (2,045 square feet) of floor space. EGGER environmental product declarations (EPDs) are also being used in the building certification process. SWISS COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION WITH EGGER WOOD-BASED MATERIALS The company Acutronic is counting on wood and EGGER wood-based materials in the construction of its new branch. In addition to functionality and optimised ergonomics, full-scale wood sheathing creates a pleasant atmosphere and imbues the building with a special flair to the outside. The building in modular wood construction completed at the end of 2009 was constructed in just eight months and offers 5,200 m² (55,972 square feet) of gross floor space. BUILDING WITH WOOD New reference projects with constructive wood-based materials implemented by EGGER Griffner Haus builds Juwi company headquarters and Square model house with EUROSTRAND OSB 4 TOP and EGGER DHF The first CO2 neutral single-family detached house, the Sunlighthouse by Velux, was built with EGGER EUROSTRAND OSB 4 TOP The company Acutronic is building a new branch in modular wood construction with EGGER EUROSTRAND OSB 4 TOP boards 16 PRELIMINARY DISCUSSIONS TO THE BAU MUNICH, OCTOBER 2010 EGGER MAKES PROGRESS Tyrolean family-run company delivers growth through its own resources The EGGER Group with its headquarters in St. Johann, in the Austrian Tyrol is one of the leading international wood processing companies. Founded in 1961, the family-run company now has 16 European locations with 5,800 employees. Customers from around the world include those from the furniture industry, the construction industries, home improvement markets and DIY. The EGGER Group generated consolidated sales of € 1.478 billion in the 2009/10 financial year. EGGER products are found in many areas of residential and commercial life: in kitchens, bathrooms, offices, living rooms and bedrooms. EGGER considers itself a full-range supplier for the furniture industry and interior design, wood construction and laminate flooring. Following the guiding principle “More from wood”, the Tyrolean producer offers a comprehensive product range of coreboards made of wood-based materials (chipboard, OSB boards and MDF boards) under the EGGER umbrella brand. Most of the base materials are upgraded with the latest decors and textures. Since the commissioning of the sawmill in Brilon, North Rhine-Westphalia (DE) in May 2008, sawn timber and planed wood has been added to the EGGER product range. The capacity for the production of wood-based materials totalled 6.38 million m3 in the past financial year. The annual capacity for fresh, dried and planed sawn timber is 500,000 m 3. CONTINUED GROWTH THROUGH INNOVATION In order to continue strengthening its existing market position, EGGER continuously works on the further development of its product portfolio. One of the focal points is the regular development of new, in-vogue decors and textures. EGGER also backsup its claim as a leading wood-based material producer with numerous new developments such as the EUROLIGHT lightweight board, the sound-absorbent ProAcoustic board and the environmentally friendly direct print technology for laminate flooring (DPR). NATURALLY CO2 NEUTRAL CAN WE REALLY SAY THAT OUR PRODUCTS ARE CO2 NEUTRAL?!! WE HAVE TO BE CAREFUL WITH A CLAIM LIKE THAT. Sustainable forestry and environmentally friendly production are key concerns for EGGER. All plants are certified according to either the PEFC or the FSC standard. In its plants, EGGER count on the integrated production of wood-based materials. This results in optimum utilisation of the raw material wood – from the production of wood and wood-based materials to its use in company-owned biomass power plants to produce energy and electricity. 17 PRELIMINARY DISCUSSIONS TO THE BAU MUNICH, OCTOBER 2010 The environmental awareness of EGGER is also reflected in its products. Since all EGGER products are made from the renewable resource wood, which is naturally CO2-neutral the products are therefore particularly environmentally friendly. But EGGER goes another step further in the development of its products: with its honeycomb technology, EUROLIGHT which helps reduce the consumption of valuable raw materials. Unlike floor coverings manufactured using conventional methods, the production of flooring using DPR® technology does not require decorative paper. This also saves valuable wood resources and energy. In terms of sustainability , EGGER is a leader in the wood-based material industry. EGGER was the first manufacturer of wood-based materials in Europe to develop internationally valid certificates – EPDs (environmental product declarations) – for all core products. The environmental product declarations are universally binding and provide an objective source of information for specifiers and manufactures. They describe the environmental impact of a product over its entire life cycle, from production to use to disposal, and are used in the building certification process. READY FOR THE FUTURE THANKS TO INVESTMENT PROGRAMME EGGER has always been willing to invest in the modernisation and expansion of its plants and in new locations. This allows EGGER to meet current customer and market requirements. EGGER is currently implementing the following investment projects: Takeover of the edging manufacturer ROMA Plastik (TR), Planning of a new resin plant and administrative building in Radauti (RO), Construction of resin plant in Radauti (RO), Construction of recycling plant in Barony (UK).
