THE EGGER GROUP ST. JOHANN IN TIROL, AUGUST 2013 EGGER MAKES PROGRESS Tyrolean family company counts on growth based on its own performance The EGGER Group with its head office in St. Johann in Tyrol is one of the leading international wood processing companies. Founded in 1961, the family-based company now has 17 production plants with approx. 7,100 employees in Europe. Customers around the world include the furniture industry, building markets and the DIY business. The group generated consolidated turnover of around EUR 2.18 billion in the 2012/13 business year. EGGER products are found in many areas of private and public life: in kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, offices, hotels, hospitals, shops and student accommodation. EGGER is a full-range supplier for the furniture industry and interior design, wood construction and laminate flooring sectors. Following the guiding principle “More from wood”, the Tyrolean wood-based material manufacturer offers a comprehensive product range of coreboards made of wood-based materials (chipboards, OSB boards and MDF boards) under the EGGER umbrella brand. Most of the base materials are upgraded with trend-conforming decors and surfaces. Since the commissioning of the sawmill in Brilon, North Rhine-Westphalia (DE) in May 2008, sawnwood and planed wood has been added to the EGGER product range. In the past business year, the production quantity for rawboards including sawn timber amounted to 7.3 million m³ (257.8 million cubic feet). CONTINUED GROWTH THROUGH INNOVATIONS In order to further strengthen its existing market position, EGGER is continuously working on the further development of its product portfolio. One of the focal points is the regular development of new decors and surfaces. EGGER also highlights is position as a leading wood-based material manufacturer with numerous new developments such as compact laminate in the EGGER decor match, the clic joint system for furniture components, the sound-absorbing ProAcoustic board with custom perforations, synchronous pore surfaces on both sides and cork+ technology as a new flooring solution for quiet, warm and robust floors. NATURALLY CO2 NEUTRAL Sustainable forestry and environmentally friendly production are key concerns for EGGER. All plants are certified according to either the PEFC or the FSC standard. In its plants, EGGER counts on the integrated production of wood-based materials. This results in the optimum utilisation of the raw material wood – from the production of wood and wood-based materials to its use in companyowned biomass power plants to produce energy and electricity. The environmental awareness of EGGER is also reflected in its products. Since all EGGER products are made from the renewable resource wood, they are naturally CO 2-neutral and therefore especially environmentally friendly. But EGGER goes another step further in the development of its products: With its honeycomb technology, the EUROLIGHT lightweight building board reduces the consumption of valuable raw materials. Unlike floor coverings manufactured using conventional methods, the production of flooring using the direct print process does not require decorative paper. This also saves valuable wood resources and energy. 01 THE EGGER GROUP ST. JOHANN IN TIROL, AUGUST 2013 In terms of sustainability along the entire value creation chain, EGGER is a leader in the wood-based material industry. EGGER was the first manufacturer of wood-based materials in Europe to develop internationally valid certificates – EPDs (environmental product declarations) – for all base products. The environmental product declarations are universally binding and sources of information for planners and fabricators. They describe the environmental impact of a product over its entire life cycle, from production to use to disposal, and are used in the building certification process. READY FOR THE FUTURE THANKS TO INVESTMENTS EGGER is always investing in the modernisation and expansion of its plants and in new locations. This allows EGGER to meet current customer and market requirements. The most important growth investments in the 2012/13 business year included the optimisation of lamination and logistics at the plant in Rambervillers (FR). The modernisation of the resin plant in Hexham (UK), the expansion of storage capacities in Gagarin (RU), the completion of the Forum in Brilon (DE) and the construction of a new component line at the plant in Bünde (DE) were realised as well.
