I want people to pause and reflect … to mentally slow down and enjoy the moment. I strive to provide the motivation for that in my work.” “Phillips is a favorite artist in our home,” said a Rocky’s Art & Framing customer and Phillips’ collector. “We had the opportunity to meet him personally a few years ago, and he is passionate about his work. That clearly shows through in the amazing detail and technical accuracy. His work is firstclass and just as important, he’s one of the most charming artists we’ve met.” “Bill definitely represents the best in Aviation art,” said Magdi Sefain, owner of Rocky’s Art & Framing. “Now a whole new audience is awakening to the talents portrayed in his Americana works. He is a strong landscape painter and the detail in his art is amazing. Bill has a deep respect for time and place, and it clearly comes through in his finished products.” The art of William S. Phillips is published exclusively by The Greenwich Workshop of Seymour, Connecticut and is available only through authorized dealers. The Greenwich Workshop is the leading publisher of limited edition fine art in North America. About William S. Phillips Phillips grew up loving art but never thought he could make it his livelihood. He majored in criminology in college, and accepted into law school when four of his paintings were sold at an airport restaurant. That was all the incentive he needed to begin his work as a fine art painter. After one of his paintings was presented to King Hussein of Jordan, Phillips was commissioned by the Royal Jordanian Air Force to develop 16 major paintings. Many of those now hang in the Royal Jordanian Air Force Museum in Amman. The Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum presented a one-man show of Phillip’s work in 1986, and he is one of only a few artists to have been so honored. In 1988, Phillips was chosen to be a U.S. Navy combat artist and was awarded the Navy’s Meritorious Public Service Award and the Air Force Sergeants Association’s Americanism Medal. More recent awards include Outstanding Alumni award, in 1997, from Southern Oregon University’s Alumni Association, and repeat honors in the top 100 for Arts for the Parks, the prestigious annual fund-raiser for the National Parks.
