Phillips is often considered as the artist of choice for many American heroes and the nostalgic landscape artist of choice for countless collectors. “Aviation was my first artistic love,” says Phillips. “The work I’m doing now captures glimpses of my personal memories and the experiences I’ve enjoyed in my life. I want people to pause and reflect … to mentally slow down and enjoy the moment. I strive to provide the motivation for that in my work.” “Phillips is a favorite artist in our home,” said a Museum Quality Framing customer and Phillips’ collector. “We had the opportunity to meet him personally a few years ago, and he is passionate about his work. That clearly shows through in the amazing detail and technical accuracy. His work is first-class and just as important, he’s one of the most charming artists we’ve met.” “Bill definitely represents the best in Aviation art,” said James Brent, owner of Museum Quality Framing. “Now a whole new audience is Revelation ©William S. Phillips is published exclusively by The Greenwich Workshop of Seymour, Connecticut and is available only through authorized dealers. The Greenwich Workshop is the leading publisher of limited edition fine art in North America. About William S. Phillips Phillips grew up loving art but never thought he could make it his livelihood. He majored in criminology in college, and was accepted into law school when four of his paintings were sold at an airport restaurant. That was all the incentive he needed to begin his work as a fine art painter. ---more--After one of his paintings was presented to King Hussein of Jordan, Phillips was commissioned by the Royal Jordanian Air Force. He developed sixteen major paintings, many of which now hang in the Royal Jordanian Air Force Museum in Amman. The Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum presented a one-man show of Phillips’ work in 1986; he is one of only a few artists to have been so honored. Phillips was awarded the Outstanding Alumni award, in 1997, from Southern Oregon University’s Alumni Association. In 1988, Phillips was chosen to be a U.S. Navy combat artist. For his outstanding work, the artist was awarded the Navy’s Meritorious Public Service Award and the Air Force Sergeants Association’s Americanism Medal. In 1991, three of Phillips’ works were chosen as part of the top 100 in “Art for the Parks,” the prestigious annual fund-raiser for the National Park Service, and one painting received the “Art History Award” from the National Park Foundation. Bill Phillips is now a renowned aviation artist and the landscape artist of choice for many collectors. Bill’s strength as a landscape painter is a respect and reverence for a time and place that helps him gain insight into the true nature of a landscape. Phillips often spends days observing his landscape subject. Finding companionship with the land, he is able to convey the boundlessness of nature on the painted canvas inspiring a reverence for the natural landscape in its beholders. From August through December of 2003, Phillips had a one-man show on display at the Old West Museum in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Recent awards include an Award for Excellence in the Mini 50 Paintings and the Top 200 paintings in the 2002 National Arts for the Parks competition In 2003, Phillips had two paintings accepted in the Top 100 of Arts for The Parks in Jackson Wyoming. He also had a miniature accepted in the Top 50 of the Miniature Show for Arts for the Parks. In April of the same year, the United States Air Force Museum included Phillips’ work in their “Centennial Celebration of Aviation Art.” In the fall of 2004, Phillips had the honor of being the first artist to be selected by the U.S. Park Service for the North Rim Artist in Residence Program.
