1. Biochemical Society reaches out to High School Students.
The Jomo Kenyatta University Biochemical Society (JKUBS) broke the barrier and set out to reach the
high school students in the neighbouring Gachororo High School on the 4 th of July 2013. The aim of the
reach-out was to create a forum through which the university students would interact and motivate the
high school students to propel towards their academic dreams and particularly give insight into what it
takes to become stars in the science arena. This move came after the realization that many students step
into the university without clear goals of what career path they would want to follow and is majorly
attributed to lack of sensitization at the high school level. Led by their chairman, Mr. Kennedy Ikonya,
the Biochemistry students enlightened the high school students on the science course choices offered by
the University and the myriad of opportunities arising. The afternoon-long session was coupled with fun
moments where gifts such as Geometrical Sets, Biology and Chemistry books, Airtime scratch cards and
Sweets were given.

2. Jomo Kenyatta University Biochemical Society gets a new office
Jomo Kenyatta University Biochemical Society (JKUBS) instituted a new office in May 2013. The office
comprises of a team of 26 members, 10 in the executive and 16 in the sub-committee respectively. During
the inauguration of the new office, training was carried out to equip the incoming leaders with basic
leadership skills, project planning and management skills as well as instilling teamwork spirit in line with
the vision and objectives of the society. Some of the former committee members were re-elected into
office following their previous impeccable leadership and relentless effort to see the union achieve its
mission. The training, which was carried out for the first time ever, was intended to pioneer an annual
leadership training culture with every incoming executive and subcommittee in JKUBS. Gracing the
occasion was Dr. Tim Mwangi who is currently the Director of Training for the International Leadership
Foundation. Dr. Tim has mobilized, motivated and deployed African leaders to serve in diverse social
spheres for the last 22 years in over 20 African countries and global forums.
