Rob Horn, Chair Preliminary Events Members identified themselves and their employers. The secretary reported that a quorum was present. Members approved the agenda as presented (version 2). Members reviewed the minutes from the WG-06 meeting held at NEMA Headquarters from October 23 – 26, 2006. They noted that Item 5 incorrectly indicates that CP473 continues assigned to Harry Solomon. In fact, it was cancelled during an earlier meeting, because its content had been included in Supplement 122, which was, then, under development. Also, the spelling of Scot Hogan’s name was corrected. With these corrections incorporated, members voted unanimously to approve the minutes as amended. Minutes of the November1 and November 3 teleconferences were approved as presented. 2. NEMA Staff Report Committee Secretary Howard Clark reported that three ballots were distributed following the October 2006 meeting of WG-06. This produced several editorial refinements and improvements in consistency. WG-09’s input regarding the definition of longitudinal (vs. perpendicular) OCT images was especially helpful. At the conclusion of this discussion, members voted, with one abstention (Siemens), to approve the document’s distribution for Public Comment. 15. Supplement 114 – DICOM Encapsulation of CDA Documents {WI 2003-12-C} This Supplement was distributed for letter ballot shortly after the WG-06 meeting in October 2006. Three sets of comments were received. After reviewing these comments and the editor’s suggested response to them, members voted (with two abstentions – Toshiba and Siemens) to approve Supplement 114 for Final Text. 1015 Working Group Six (Base Standard) of the DICOM Standards Committee January 22 – 26, 2007 Supplement 115 – Evidence Document SOP Classes {WI 2003-12-B} 16. Harry Solomon reminded members of the new change proposal (Add RTSS ROI Feature UID), which was designated CP757 during the group’s January 16 Tcon. He wanted to make sure that members recognized its potential impact on this draft supplement. Supplement 116 – 3D X-ray Storage SOP Class {WI 2005-09-C} 17. This supplement was distributed for letter ballot shortly after the October 2006 meeting of WG06. While the ballot was approved, two sets of comments were received. WG-02 Chair Rainer Thieme and Supplement Editor Bas Revet led a discussion of these comments and WG-02’s response to them. Additionally, members conducted a quick line-by-line review of the entire document. Upon completing this exercise and incorporating of some minor refinements, members voted unanimously to approve its release for Final Text. Supplement 117 – Enhanced PET Image Storage SOP Class {WI 2006-04-D} 18. Not discussed at this meeting. This supplement is under active development by members of WG-03. It was sent for Public Comment in August of 2006. Supplement 118 – Application Hosting {WI 2004-09-E} 19. Not discussed at this meeting. This supplement is under active development by members of WG-23. Supplement 119 – Instance and Frame Level Retrieve SOP Classes {WI 2005-12-A} 20. Supplement Editor David Harvey presented and led a discussion of versions 4, 5, and 7 of this draft supplement. As requested at the last meeting, Mr. Harvey has provided significant additional detail for the following five use cases: Clinical Review Local use – “relevant priors” Content based retrieval CAD & data mining Applications Independent WADO Server As before, one of the key issues was how to handle WADO. Mr. Harvey will update the document to reflect guidance provided during the course of this meeting and post it to the private FTP site for discussion at the March meeting. 21. Supplement 120 – Extended Presentation States {WI 2005-09-A} Not discussed at this meeting. 22. Supplement 121 – Modality Procedure Plan and Protocol Storage {WI 2006-04-E} At its meeting in April of 2006, the DICOM Standards Committee approved a Work Item Request on “Modality Protocol Storage” submitted by WG-06. Kevin O’Donnell is serving as 1016 Working Group Six (Base Standard) of the DICOM Standards Committee January 22 – 26, 2007 the author/editor of this draft supplement, which is being developed pursuant to that request. The scope of the Supplement is to define a baseline for a family of modality-specific storage SOP Classes for detailed protocol and procedure plan information. These SOP Classes include details about: Patient preparation Patient positioning Acquisition technique Equipment characteristics Image processing Other? Potential applications of this Supplement include: Distributing departmental or “best practice” protocols to modality systems Distributing clinical trial protocols (general or model specific) to participating sites Recording protocol details for a performed study to submit with clinical trial images for technique validation Recording protocol details for a performed study to better perform comparable followup or repeat studies Providing more protocol details to radiologists reviewing a study Careful attention was given to a review of the Open Issues list. This was followed by a detailed discussion of the “Procedure Context Module Attributes,” etc. WG-06 members encouraged Mr. O’Donnell to add a use-case example dealing with clinical trials. This will help build connections to ACRIN, caBIG, and CDISK and could help to reactivate DICOM’s WG-18. 23. Supplement 122 – Specimen Identification and Revised Pathology SOP Classes {WI 2006-11-B} Eleven members of WG-26 participated in this meeting of WG-06. On behalf of WG-26, Bruce Beckwith led a high-level discussion of draft #7 of this supplement for the purpose of familiarizing members of WG-06 with the primary objectives of the supplement. In the course of this exchange, participants determined that it would be useful to introduce some new terms like “pathology specimen photography” and “pathology slide microscopy.” Attention was also focused on two accompanying documents “SUP122 specimen identification module examples” and SUP122_revised specimen examples.” At the conclusion of this discussion, members of WG-06 encouraged WG-26 to continue the development of this draft supplement and return at a future meeting to review progress and possibly issue for public comment. 24. Supplement 123 – Structured Display {WI 2004-12-C} Not discussed at this meeting. This supplement is under active development by members of WG-22. 25. Supplement 124 – Communication of Display Parameters {WI 2004-12-B} Not discussed at this meeting. This supplement is under active development by members of WG-11. 1017 Working Group Six (Base Standard) of the DICOM Standards Committee January 22 – 26, 2007 26. Supplement 125 – Breast Tomosynthesis Not discussed at this meeting. This supplement is under active development by members of WG-15. 27. Supplement 126 – Colon CAD Structured Report {WI 2005-12-C} Not discussed at this meeting. This supplement is under active development by members of WG-15. 28. Publishing DICOM in XML No report at this meeting. 29. New Business C-FIND Performance Considerations Rob Horn gave a PowerPoint presentation summarizing the challenges for C-FIND Performance. A copy is available in the Minutes Folder for this meeting. Members believe that a Work Item Request should be prepared to seek authorization for the development of a new supplement to deal with these issues in a more efficient fashion. Cardiac Stress SR {WI 2006-09-A} On behalf of WG-01, Harry Solomon presented version #5 of a draft supplement that is part of a larger project for an integrated stress testing data and workflow environment based on the DICOM Standard being promoted by IHE’s Cardiology domain. The document was designated draft Supplement 128. CT Radiation Dose Reporting {WI 2004-04-C} On behalf of DICOM’s WG-21 (CT), Bernard Hassold gave a PowerPoint presentation regarding the need for and management of CT dose reporting. He, then, launched into a detailed review of the file labeled “Sup94XX_ft_CT_08012007” [CT Radiation Dose Reporting (Dose SR)]. After some substantial editing by the group, members agreed that the document was very nearly ready for public comment. The document was designated draft Supplement 127. Mr. Hassold will provide an updated version for consideration in March. Electrophysiology Structured Reports and Procedure Log Templates {WI 2006-04-A} On behalf of WG-01, Harry Solomon presented version #5 of a draft supplement that is part of a larger project for an integrated, stress-testing data and workflow environment that is based on the DICOM Standard and being promoted by IHE’s Cardiology domain. The document was designated draft Supplement 129. Handling Large Pathology Images {WI 2006-11-C} In some circumstances, Pathologists can encounter very large digital files (375 GB or larger) associated with whole slide images. The issue for this discussion is how DICOM might be able 1018 Working Group Six (Base Standard) of the DICOM Standards Committee January 22 – 26, 2007 to assist with acquiring, storing, retrieving, and displaying such files or selected parts of those files. Members of WG-26 have been struggling with this issue for some time and have developed some ideas on how best to utilize DICOM for this purpose. On behalf of WG-26, Ole Eichhorn presented a summary of their current thinking and identified several issues for which WG-06 might be able to make specific recommendations. A copy of Mr. Eichhorn’s presentation may be found in the Minutes Folder for this meeting. Members of WG-06 were impressed with the progress to date and saw numerous connections between some of DICOM’s more recent technologies (e.g., multiframe MR and CT images) and projected capabilities (e.g., frame level retrieve from MR and CT objects). They urged WG-26 to prepare a new supplement based on the recently approved Supplement 116 (3D X-ray Storage SOP Class.) Members of WG-26 will determine the best opportunity to return with a draft supplement. HL7 CMET Ballot On behalf of WG-20, Dr. Helmut Koenig joined the meeting via a WebEx enhanced teleconference and reviewed the recently completed HL7 CMET ballot process – including a review of the one significant ballot comment and WG-20’s response to it. The file "Wg20_CmetMembershipBallotJanuary2007.doc" has been uploaded to the WG-06 folder on the ftp site. During the ensuing discussion, members of WG-06 noted that DICOM has: Blending Presentation, Stereometric, Deformation, Etc. where these objects refer to other objects. They wondered whether HL7 needs to capture this. For example, DICOM HL7-CDA Stereometric Object Left Image ????? Right Image There appear to be two options: A. Just list the three objects. B. Define the relationships. Blending, deformation, etc. involve more relationships. Option “A” is fully complete for a DICOM-aware system, because the SOP Classes, Instances, and container fully define the relationships. Option “B” is needed if non-DICOM-aware systems need to know something about the relationships. 1019 Working Group Six (Base Standard) of the DICOM Standards Committee January 22 – 26, 2007 Ophthalmic Refractive Structured Reports {WIR 2005-12-B} On behalf of WG-09, Dr. Linda Wedemeyer gave a short presentation to members of WG-06 regarding the normal procedures for eye examinations and the resulting need for DICOM structured reports. A copy of her presentation (OphthalmicSRPresentation.ppt) is available in the Minutes folder for this meeting. One key issue was whether this application required the Structured Report format. This document was designated draft Supplement 130. 30. Future Meetings The Group’s future meeting dates and locations are as follows: March 16, 2007 – Tcon for CPs March 26 – 30, 2007 at NEMA June 19, 2007 – Tcon for CPs June 25 – 28, 2007 in Berlin (Half day on June 28) August 21, 2007 – Tcon for CPs August 27 – 30, 2007 at NEMA October 23, 2007 – Tcon for CPs October 29 – November 1, 2007 at NEMA Unless otherwise noted, meetings are scheduled from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM each day; T-cons begin at 10 AM Eastern Time and extend for two hours. 31.
