FAT CATTLE can be moved to a Red /slaughter only market WITHOUT pre-movement testing.
6 Day Rule does NOT apply
STORE CATTLE must be pre-movement tested and the 6 Day rule applies (Pre-movement test lasts
60 days)
4 YEAR TESTING PARISHES
Cattle can move to any market without pre-movement testing
All WEDNESDAY MARKETS are RED/SLAUGHTER ONLY MARKETS
STORE AND BREEDING CATTLE, SHEEP AND PIGS will be held on SATURDAYS
We believe that this will be in everyone’s best interest and look forward to continuing to provide a
complete marketing service to all our clients.
The market is licenced to accept cattle from TB Restricted Herds, ie. Herds that have had a TB
breakdown in our Red (Slaughter only) markets subject to the following conditions:
a. The animals being presented for sale must have had a negative TB test in the previous 30
days
b. In order for you to bring your stock here you will need to obtain a licence (TB24B) from
your local Defra Animal Health Office.
Obviously there will be many concerns and questions that you may have, we will continue to
update you in this publication or better still ring anytime

SHEEP EID
The following applies to movements made from 01.01.2011 – for sheep indentified since 1st
January 2010

Lambs/Hoggets destined for slaughter before they reach 12 months of age and identified with a
single tag bearing flock mark (electronic or manual)
These sheep can be recorded on movement documents as a batch. There is NO requirement to list
all the flock numbers, even when a “batch within batch” consignment is moved.
Lambs/ Hoggets (Stores) must be double tagged and must be electronic
These sheep MUST be individually identified on the movement document, unless they are moving
to Newark or any other approved CPRC (Central Point Recording Centre) where the tags will be read
and recorded on behalf of the keeper.
Keepers using the CPRC facility must populate their Holding Register with the read information
within 48 hours of the sheep leaving their holding
Holding Registers:
1.
ALL sheep moved MUST be recorded in the keepers Holding Register “Keepers” include:
farmers, dealers, markets, abattoirs etc. This has been a requirement since 31 st December
2009.
The recording requirements include:
 All individual numbers, if full EID has been applied
 All flock numbers, if single slaughter tags have been applied

37 Feeding Cows, 86 Rearing and Reared Calves, 13 Cows and Calves and 65 Stores
FEEDING COWS – 37 averaged 143.67p or £883.45
A very decent entry for the time of year met a packed ringside of buyers and a marvellous
trade prevailed.
Doug and Rachel Gascoine sold Limousins to 194.5p - £1106.71 and 179.5p - £1008.79. Alan
Twell sold Simmentals to 176.5p - £1136.66.
Without doubt many many more Feeders could have been well sold – Don’t forget as of
10th August this Sale will be every week
BREEDING CATTLE – 13
A decent entry on offer today met a very sprinted demand with recent rainfalls refreshing
pastures.
Dennis Burton, Newark sold Limousins 2nd calvers (50 months) with 4 month old Hereford
Bull calves to £1550.00. Pete Jeffery, Ashbourne sold first calved Limousin X Friesian heifers
with 5 week old Limousin Bull calves to £1500.00.
STORE CATTLE – 65
A small entry of mixed Store cattle met a very sharp trade indeed. Mr J Garton, Huntingdon
sold Simmental (26 month) steers to £1210.00, Mr NC Roberts, Norwich sold Blonde steers
(18 months) to £1080.00 and 16 month old heifers to £980. David Walker sold 13 month old
Limousin bulls to £980, Kevin Johnson, Grantham sold 18 month old Limousin heifers to
£1080.
Again a very good result with all genuine farmers cattle present and all stock paid for on the

Again another outstanding turnout of calves this week.
Today overall quality would be back on the previous sale, but saying that the best calves
were better and at the other end many calves to young leaving nothing in the middle.
Best calves today sold to another improved trade heifers from the Sharman family lead the
way selling to £455 twice for Charolais Crosses and bulls the same way bred at £410, Messrs
Pogson sold Blue bulls to £365, the Jukes family got to £350 and £290 for Limousin Bulls and
black and whites topped at £140 but generally £60 to £80.

Reared calves looked to be less but again quality was less, no real eye catching prices
achieved this week but top price went to P Tuplins Limousin Heifers at £480 followed by
Blues at £456, Messrs Grant sold a 10 month old Long Horn heifer at £450 and henry Catlin
sold 4 month old Angus heifers to £405.The best of the black and white sold to £445 at
5 months from West Hall Lodge. MANY MORE REQUIRED TO MEED DEMAND

Young Bulls - 154 averaged 198.93p
Again a decent entry of young bulls on offer today, however a great percentage of black and
whites and 3rd quality Continentals forward, together with some very useful suckler bulls
which really lacked finish and if they had been kept would have made really good bulls!!
Trade today was faster on the week which is against the general form with deadweight firms
continuing to drop prices and auctions elsewhere definitely less.
Top price today went to Messrs CE & S Smith who sold Charolais to 244.5p - £1166.27. Ian
Bristow sold Limousins to 239.5p - £1288.51. Three at 237.5p all Limousins from John
Holmes, Barry and Gill Heald and Robert Holmes to gross £1453.50, £1429.75 and £1325.25.
Today the top grossing bull was consigned by Messrs E Harrison and Son who sold Charolais
to £1740.59, David Applewhite sold Limousins to £1712.10.
Today best E graded bulls sold from 234p with U+’s 228-233p and –U grades 220-227p and
R grades 208-218p with O+’s 198-207p.
Today plenty of black and whites with the best 176-186p, plainer sorts 166-170p and very
plain Holsteins 140-150p.

entry. Cows today definitely not just as sharp, however nothing like the reductions seen on
deadweight quotations.

Holmes sold Limousins to 190.5p - £1487.81, Mr RO Ibbotson sold Blues to 187.5p ££1509.38, Martin Plant sold Holsteins to £1351.48.
Today all best fed suckler cows 160p plus with secondary sorts 146-156p. Best black and
whites 132-144p and plainer sorts 120-128p and horrors 95-106p.
OTM clean cattle no the best of samples and sold to 198.5p - £1349.80 for a Limousin heifer
from Messrs Manor Farms.
Angus stock bulls from Messrs AC Hipperson & Son sold to £1261.49.

Steers - 100 averaged 209.71p
Perhaps one of the worst shows of steers seen in Newark for a very long time with U grade
or better sorts ‘like hens teeth’.
Certainly today no sign of the deadweight drop with buyers going very well at the ringside.
Top steer today was sold by Ian Wildgoose who sold Limousins to 259.5p - £1507.70. Nick
Sansom sold Limousins to 255.5p - £1277.50. David and Louise Todd sold Blues to 253.5p £1457.63 and 245.5p - £1755.33. Messrs Darlay & Sons sold Blues to 253.5p - £1741.55.
Today E grades 250p plus with U+’s 236-242p and –U grades 224-233p, R grades sold from
218-223p and O+’s 208-217p. Best meated Holsteins 178-188p and plainer sorts 166-176p.

Heifers generally quality were marginally better than the steers and again a very decent
trade.
Top heifer was sold by Ian Wildgoose who sold Blues to 269.5p - £1436.44 and 261.5p £1370.26. John Holmes sold Limousins to 263.5p - £1494.05 and Limousins to 259.5p £1219.65.
Pete Burgess sold Blues to 257.5p - £1192.23 and Nick Sansom sold Limousins to 253.5p £1221.87, Charles Addison sold Blondes to 256.5p - £1415.88.
David and Louise Todd sold Simmental to £1639.16.
