Homecoming Step Show

Dear Sorority or Fraternity:

The National Pan-Hellenic Council of Truman State University would like to invite you to participate in our annual Homecoming Step Show. This year, we would like to give our campus a more diverse and complete presentation of the Divine Nine, especially those organizations that are not currently present on our yard. We are extending this invitation for exhibition teams, not competition.

The stipulations are as follows:

1.

$75 REFUNDABLE deposit

Complete 6-8 minute show

Follow all rules listed below

Upon completion of your show adherence to all rules, your chapter will receive a check for

$250.00

5.

There will time allotted the day of for you to practice on the stage and check your tech equipment if need be.

If you are inviting guests, please remind them of the rules to which you are abiding by. The step show costs $5 up until the actual day of which it will go up to $8 at the door. The after party will be $5.

Step Show Rules

1.

Teams a.

Any canes, sticks or other similar props MUST be wrapped in order not to damage the stage.

b.

Teams must check in at a specific time and place decided by the homecoming committee c.

Team must submit a copy of all music and/or videos used in their performance to the

NPHC advisor no less than 1 week prior to the show. d.

No undergraduate NPHC Chapter can reserve seats.

2.

Rehearsals and Order of Show a.

Show order will be determined by random drawing b.

Only the NPHC Vice-President/Homecoming Committee Chair can alter the order of the show

3.

Time Limit a.

The time each team is allotted to step shall be based upon total stage time. It is the responsibility of the Homecoming Committee to inform teams the amount of performance time they will receive.

b.

Time starts at first sign of music, lights, video, or person beginning performance. Time runs until all props and step team members are off the stage.

4.

Restrictions and Deductions a.

Any violation of the following rules will result in a percentage loss of earnings. b.

There shall be no cursing, nudity, or obscene gestures. This will lead to an automatic disqualification of the team from any financial compensation; c.

Obscene gestures are defined as the following:

1.

Designed to incite indecency or lust

2.

Abhorrent: offensive to the mind; lewd

3.

Suggestive of or tending to moral looseness

a)

There shall be no bashing. Bashing is defined as any reference via colors, symbols, signs, or names that puts down another organization to uplift one’s own organization. Bashing will also lead to an automatic disqualification of the team;

b)

If a team exceeds their allotted performance time and;

c)

If the team fails to check in by the designated time

This Agreement made this date, _____________, between the Truman State University National Pan-Hellenic Council (hereinafter referred to as

Sponsor) and _____________ (hereinafter referred to as Performer). It is understood and mutually agreed that the Sponsor engages the performer to perform the following engagement upon all the terms and conditions set forth:

Sponsor will pay the full price agreed upon at the conclusion of the program or the following week. Payment will be made by Truman State National Pan-Hellenic Council check. The price agreed upon is an all-inclusive fee, and no additional fees or charges will be paid, unless so noted. (Performer shall be paid in full on the day of the engagement following the performance via Truman State National Pan-Hellenic Council check; or the check will be mailed.)

2.

If the Performer cancels their agreed to performance for any reason other than an Act of God, both parties will part amicably and the performer will forfeit the $250.00 flat guarantee.

3.

Must follow all of the NPHC Rules in order for full amount of guarantee to be paid.

This contract and its attachments may be executed and exchange electronically or by fax. The representative of Truman State University

National Pan-Hellenic Council, in signing this Contract warrants that he/she signs as a properly authorized representative of NPHC and does not assume personal liability for meeting the terms of the Contract.

UNIVERSITY POLICIES: The Sponsor shall have the right to address and rectify any said/perceived wrong. Any final decisions will be mutual in nature between the Sponsor and the Performer. a.

The performer will adhere to all University policies. Truman State University is a dry campus. No alcohol is allowed whatsoever; the use or possession of alcoholic beverages, non-prescription narcotics, and drug paraphernalia is strictly prohibited on-campus. No firearms shall be allowed on premises. Use or possession of the aforementioned may result in cancellation of the contract with no liability on the part of Truman State University. If performer has any of the aforementioned present the performer will be asked or escorted off the premises and will forfeit the flat guarantee of

$250.00. b.

University personnel and students cannot be used to go purchase alcohol or tobacco. c.

Any activity the performer engages in following the completion of the performance will be at the sole cost and liability of the performer. Any and all persons traveling or performing with Performer are to be employees of Performer and are to be paid by the Performer and not the Sponsor (NPHC).

USE OF PREMISES: Performer shall confine the storage of materials and the conduct of its employees, agents, members, and guests to limits indicated by law, ordinance, permits and direction of UNIVERSITY and shall not unreasonably encumber the premises with its materials. Performer shall respect Truman State University instructions regarding signs, advertisements, fires and smoking. A dressing room will be provided to the artist and will be a short distance from the stage and have close access to a washroom.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: Performer must provide the Sponsor with full current technical requirements in advance of the NPHC performance. Performer will have to use the quality of equipment that Baldwin Hall Auditorium has available as far as: lighting equipment, sound equipment, soft goods and placement of soft goods. Venue requires that all Venue Coordinators be present at all times and that a Sponsor representative be present at all times (i.e. NPHC member and/or Professional Staff member of the University). b.

NPHC will not be responsible for Performer’s tool, equipment or materials. c.

NPHC will work with each performer on the production of their performance – subject to venue capability d.

SECURITY: Truman State University Department of Public Safety (DPS) personnel will be on call throughout the event. DPS and

Professional staff members will provide on-site security for performance if needed.

MERCHANDISE: NPHC will provide a well-lit area and table for the performer to display and sell merchandise. Performer is solely responsible for the security and distribution of their merchandise. Performer will receive profits.

ACT OF GOD: Sponsor shall not be responsible for any items heretofore mentioned when prevented from doing so by an Act of God

(defined as an act occasioned exclusively by forces of nature without the interference of any human agency) and if the act is of such a character that it could not have been prevented or escaped from by any amount of foresight or prudence, or by any reasonable degree of care or diligence, or by the aid of any appliances, which the situation of the party might reasonably require him to use, or any other legitimate condition beyond the control of NPHC. If such acts or conditions occur, the parties are relieved of their responsibilities under this agreement. a.

If the Performer is late for the performance (time stated in contract) for any reason other than Act of God, but arrives and presents the agreed upon performance within thirty (30) minutes of the agreed-upon time of the program as directed by the University, the engagement will be considered to have been completed as agreed. b.

If any unavoidable delay is incurred in the arrival, the artist must call the NPHC contact so the announcement may be made. If the Performer does not arrive within thirty minutes then the engagement will be considered uncompleted.

GOVERNING STATE: The laws of the State of Missouri shall govern the validity, construction, and effect of this Contract.
