THE KAAWS CLINIC, PLLC JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Department: Reports To: Pay Range: Animal Health Technician I Clinic Facilities Clinic Manager Hourly Pay; $10-$14/hour SUMMARY Primary individual responsible for providing support to Staff Veterinarians and Animal Health Technician IIs. Provide highest quality medical care possible, under veterinary supervision, to patients served in a humane and professional manner. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Promote the humane care and treatment of animals at all times. Assist with admitting patients on a daily basis. Legibly complete all medical records. Under direction of and supervision by veterinarian, perform initial examination of all surgical candidates, record findings and body weight. In accordance with established policies and procedures, and under the direction of the veterinarian, assist with all medical procedures. Monitor surgery patients from the induction of anesthesia until full recovery has been achieved. Participate in daily cleaning routines including scrubbing and preparation of surgical instrument packs. Adhere to clinic procedure and employee manuals. Maintain clean, neat, and orderly work area at all times. Assist with patient discharge on a daily basis. Clean and organize all equipment and supplies each day. Adhere to applicable state and federal laws governing animal health technicians. Adhere to OSHA compliance policies & procedures. Participate in and provide proof of approved continuing education program for animal health technicians. Train and supervise clinic volunteers. Attend safety meetings and training. Maintain strict confidentiality on client, patient and donor information. Be respectful of coworkers and treat subordinate and superior staff, clients, volunteers and patients in a professional manner. Enter client and medical data into medical records software system. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or equivalent and one – two years veterinary clinic experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. COMPUTER SKILLS To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software; spreadsheet software; inventory software; database software; Internet software; E-mail; and order processing systems. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS N/A SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Manage and train Animal Assistants and volunteers. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The potential exists for exposure to zoonotic diseases, such as rabies, mange, and ringworm. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Requires ability to lift patients, equipment and supplies up to 50 pounds, considerable walking, standing and moving of equipment and patients.
